Model: 13.3 mbp base model 2010 April Release.

I've had my mac for about a week, until i noticed a scratch. Looking at it more carefully it seemed like 7 deep scratches inside the optical bay loading area.

I talked to apple and they said its 'defective machining'. I bought this mac from a third party seller and am now waiting for their response.

After much use, i fell in love with osx. I don't think i can ever go back to windows, except for work related things.

    I have two options now.
    1. Refund my mac, continue to use my windows laptop. Wait for the I series and better graphics to come for the 13" Buy one then.
    2. Refund my mac, pick up the 15" mbp

Here are a few things i'd like to state:
    1. I love the size of the 13". Super portable, not a hassle to move from room to room or stick it in my bag. I don't really have experience with a 15" mbp. Is there a big difference?

    2. I admit I am a casual gamer, and with steam now available for mac, it's even more enticing. If I'm to use a laptop for the next few years, i'm worried that my mbp wont be able hang, where as the 15" is more compatible.

    3. I see noticeable lag with VMware running Win7 for work purposes. The osx doesnt lag, but windows in VMware seems to freeze for a few seconds when im running programs i need for work. Will I see a better performance from the 15"

After typing this, I guess it's coming down to... wait for 'i' series 13" with better graphics or pull the trigger on the 15". Since there is no solid information on if/when the 13" will be upgraded I'm just sitting between a rock and a hard place.

    Would love some input.

    Thanks~

Best to have two laptops. One Mac and one PC :) For regular web surfing I find myself using the Macbook Pro. It's simply great :)

I would keep the 13" Macbook that you have. Sorry to hear about the one you received. I recently received my new X201s and it came with a couple of small defects as well. One feels pretty upset when one gets something new that is not perfect.

Unfortunately, it's a huge difference in portability in my opinion. I would definitely try out a 15" before making the plunge.

To me the 13" MBP is the perfect size - we've got a couple of them at the house and they strike the right balance between portability and usability. However, at 1280x800, the screen resolution is too limited and at a $1199 starting price, anything less than an i3 processor is simply out of the question.

If you want the latest technology but in an Apple notepad, you'll probably need to go with with the 15" MBP. I don't see the 13" being upgraded anytime soon - if at all to the now-current generation Intel processors.

In my opinion there is. The size and weight difference (more than 500 grams) make quite a difference for portability.

I'm looking forward to the MBA refresh because I love the 1.3 KG Air.

If Apple somehow crams the performance of the 13" into the MBA - the 320m in particular - that will be quite the awesome subnotebook.

    +1

Althought the 15" MBP isn't the biggest 15" on the market, to me it feels MUCH larger than the 13" and is more of a desktop replacement than true portable.

I'll be interested to see what's in store for the MBA. If it were to be made available with the same no-commitment 3g data plan as the iPad 3g, I may get it instead of the iPad 3g.

the 320m runs very cool... with slightly lower end or low voltage C2Ds, it should be possible
