    Hello!

I am looking to buy a new macbook, since they finally brought the free ipod promotion to canada :) When you buy online, do they usually send you the most recent build of the laptop? Because I do not want to buy online, if they are gonna send me a very early model. I'd imagine that the online vendors have the latest models vs in store because i'm sure in store would like to rid their older models first.

I would say the online are probably newer, but I doubt there will be much variation from week to week. If it were say a 6 week difference, maybe there would be some improvements, but it will likely be 2 weeks or so, if that.

When I tried to buy my MacBook at the Apple Store, they were sold out. I had to wait for thier next shipment to come in. So buying at the Apple Store may not always be older.

Is it an inconvenience to go to an Apple Store? If you buy from the Apple Store, you can build a relationship that will make it easier if you need to return your MacBook for some reason. One more piece of advise, do not do any upgrades through Apple. Not only are they more expensive, you cannot just exchange it if something goes wrong. They will have to send it in and you will have to wait. If you have a stock config it is a very easy exchange.

Not meaning to hijack your thread, but I'll be making my decision to purchase the macbook soon and was wondering how hard is it to return a purchase made online (incase something wrong happens.) Buying it from an Apple store is possible but not likely because I live about 3 hours away from the closest one. Any suggestions?

Well, the best thing if you have a defective MB would be to go to the Apple Store to make sure the return happens without any hiccups. You can also mail it back into Apple, but you have to pay for shipping and insurance, unless there is a major defect.

As long as you don't customize it you will be able to return it in store. Otherwise, you can return it in store, but they will have to send you a new one because they obviously won't carry a customized version.

In general, they would probably have it picked up. There are also authorized service providers besides the Apple Stores, one of those might be closer to you and if they do the check to determine it is faulty they might be able to assist in the exchange.
