If you're not great at learning new "stuff"... maybe you should get a book. However, the OSX is very user intuitive and you'll be able to work your way around. I'm sure there are many video tutorials around. Go to the store and ask one of the reps to help you...

I'm usually really good at learning new stuff, but a lot of people recommended me this book and wanted the opinion of you guys... thanks! I might still buy it to read for fun and to learn new tricks faster.

eh. anything you can learn from a book you can probably google faster. i think part of the fun of learning a new os is "discovering" all the cool features. of course, your opinion will vary. if you want it, get it. at the very least you'll get to add to your book collection :)

Sometimes having a book is somewhat useful. Im sure I probly dont know everything that there is about osx, and sometimes having a book is useful as youll come across new stuff.

So yea, for a beginer having all the info in one spot can be useful, and finding stuff in google can sometimes be annoying. Again, having everything in one spot is good.

Dont buy a book on an OS man... total waste of money. You can easily discover what that book has to offer and much more right on the web.

I don't think you need it, most people just play around with it for a couple of days and learn a lot of things. Beside you should have a mac-use friend who could point out some things for you.

there are only little to play with for OSX unless you will be fiddling the function in terminal, but even so i don't think the book covers that.

osx sets up everything for you with limited options compare to windows; and as much as it works nicely, you won't have as much things to "do" in the OS

As far as customization of the main features in OS X like the Dock, you won't be able to mess around with that too much without the help of 3rd party applications. But I think people really haven't messed around with OS X enough to really figure out how customizable it really is. You most definitely have as much to do in OS X as you do in Windows, its just you need to explore it deeper. Also, a program called Onyx really lets you configure your Mac to your needs.

No, you could just learn by just playing with OSX itself.

That's very true, but with a program like Onyx, everything is right there for you, therefore making it easier. Playing with OS X itself is a great way to learn it. Very easy to get the hang of.
