    Hi all,

    Newbie here! :)

I am planning a trip to the US (Chicago) next month and I want to buy a MBP and an IPhone. I will be staying in a hotel for 2 weeks. As far as I know Apple Stores do not accept cash for IPhones (netither for MacBooks???) and I have a VISA Credit Card that is issued in Greece. So:

    1) Will I be able to go to the local Chicago Apple Store, pay in cash and purchase the items?

2)Will I be able to go to the local Chicago Apple Store, pay with my VISA credit card issued in Greece and purchase the items?

3)Will I be able to get it online by registering to the Apple Store(or any other store) using the hotel's address and use my credit card?

The reason that I am worried is because in the FAQ form Apple.com i read:

    Thanks a lot!

The brick and mortar apple stores (non online) will except your Greek credit card for the macbook for sure. For the Macbook you can pay in cash too.

They only want credit card payments for the iphone because they want to know who buys the iphone and keep track if they registered with at&t or if they unlocked it. If you pay with a greek credit card its very obvious that you are planning to export and unlock it.

edit:** just searched a bit on google and it looks like they might not sell it to you unless you are a resident and have a us credit card. Apple might not care or might refuse. Depends on the store but mostly they will sell it to you. One way that might work is if you get a US pre paid credit/debit card. You can try a At&t store they seem to be less strict.

I can't say anything about the iPhone, but I was able to purchase a MacBook from the very Apple store in Chicago, using my Turkish credit card; so no problem there.

Apple stores prefer credit cards instead of cash?

That explains why the Apple store I went to "assumed" I was going to pay with a credit card, until I showed them 30 $100 bills. It was fun watching her mark them with that special pen. *laughs*

30 $100 bills? Oh man... dang, I would never carry around that kind of cash unless I had some body guards lol.
