Took my iMac out of the box yesterday, and using the Software Update icon in the System Preferences, have already installed the following updates:

    Safari
Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update, Version 2.3
Mac OS X Update, Version 10.5.5
Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2, Version 1.0
    iTunes, Version 8.0.2
    iPhoto Update, Version 7.1.5
Remove Desktop Client Update, Version 3.2.2
    Quick Time, Version 7.5.5
    Front Row Update, Version 2.1.6
AirPort Extreme Update 2008-004, Version 1.0
Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update, Version 1.1
Quick Time H.264 Compatibility Update, Version 7.5.5
    Security Update 2008-007, Version 1.0

Is this typical of a refurbished Mac? Also, I'm installing the updates while I'm logged in as the Administrator. Then I'm restarting and logging in as a regular user. When I go back into the Software Updates section, I can see the last time that new version of software were checked for, but the "Installed Updates" list is blank. I can't see the Installed Updates unless I'm logged in as an administrator?

Not familiar with OS X right now...being a bit paranoid.

    Yes, it's fine.

Apple has just gone through a couple of update rounds since the master image they used to burn the HDD in your system was first made. Apple doesn't update the master in the factory all that often, since the Updates feature handles getting a system up to speed whenever it's purchased.

Nothing to worry about :). Enjoy your new toy.

Your iMac is definitely defective. I can take it off your hands for $200. :D
