I guess make sure it wasn't stolen. Make sure you get the box/software and original purchase receipt if possible.

How are they sending the Macbook than? Just the.. macbook? No box or anything??

I don't want to sound cynical or anything, but when buying electronics, receipts are exxtreeemely important. You're sure this isn't a scam or anything? In my opinion, buying a Macbook on ebay without a box or receipt sounds slightly suspicious to me...

i dont know about apple's policy with warranty but evga cards if you bought from ebay they will not honor the warranty and will not offer step up for it.

i supposed you just hope nothing goes wrong with the macbook

I already have it! Was well packed.

Everything looks in order....except for the fact he sent me a lower model so he's compensating me for that.

That makes it sound more sketchy.

Not to get you paranoid or worried, but the guy bought it in September 2007, and already has lost the box, CDs, manuals, etc. He also didn't know what he had and overspec'd it.

I'd call Apple and see if it's been reported stolen. If so, I'd contact paypal immediately after.

If not, then chalk it up to my paranoid mind.

It should be okay - when I brought in my Macbook for repairs, they looked at the computer's date (Apple logo in the top left, and then "About This Mac"), and only afterwards asked me for a receipt. :)

    So if I don't have a receipt I'm a bit buggered then?

The receipt isn't too important, but that's because some people aren't comfortable giving some of the information that is on it out.

I'd be more worried that it wasn't the model he said it was, and missing a box, which makes it sound like it wasn't his.

    Return it if you can...

I have never used eBay before, is there a way to have the guy pay you back and you return the Macbook?

most legit sellers will take it back unless it states on the listing that they don't accept returns unless defective.

funny how some sellers put ALL SALES FINAL lolz

I guess keep it, and hope for the best.

Generally though, if you're going to purchase any electronic over $100, you should try to get the original receipt for it. :)

I'd still get the serial varified to make sure it is legit and has not been reported stolen. You only get limited time to file with paypal.
