After an install of XP & windows 7 and use of a silly program to ramp the fans up; I've actually found that Vista is the best one for the job and actually ramps the fans up automatically, which means I can play games!

Finally then, it solves my problem, as partly why I got the macbook was to run windows, but was gutted when even if it was doing nothing, the heat coming off of it was really hot to touch.

Hope this helps some people who want to run bootcamp.

I think by default that the Boot Camp drivers auto-magically ramp up the fans to about 3000 RPM.

I don't think you do, unless you're doing something really taxing like playing games and are worried it may over heat. I've been doing some encoding this morning on Vista and found that while the system was doing nothing (i.e. before the encoding was going) the system was as warm as osx makes it when idle. While encoding, the system did get warm, but the fan kicked in very early on, not too loud; I've heard them go louder, but enough to keep the temps down, which I was very impressed about.

Will be having a go at some games later and will report back, but I'm sure to say that out of XP, Vista & 7, this is the best OS on macbook pro so far.

Just for reference, my macbook pro is the 13.3", 2.26GHz stock spec.
