I just got Vista installed on my MBP via boot camp. Everything is running fine so far. However, I noticed that with Mac OS x I was able to left-click by tapping the touchpad with a finger. Does anyone know if this is possible to do on Vista?

Edit: sorry I misread your post initially

uhm, i think double tap works. I know I was able to scroll with two fingers just like in OS X.

You can scroll, but I don't think you can click using the touchpad. You need to use the mouse button.

Does anyone know if there is an alternative driver for the touchpad out there that allows tap-clicking on the touchpad? Or if this will be added in later versions of boot camp?

hunt around the forum a bit - there's lots of new switchers who were on about this. you can press control and the trackpad button to get right click, but i'm not sure if this is default for bootcamp or if you have to set up that mapping somehow.

no driver for tap clicking that i know of. as for future versions, i'm afraid i'm fresh out of crystal balls. what does yours say?

LoL all I can say is I hope so. It really isn't a big deal when I'm using a mouse, but when I'm just using the touchpad it would be a nice feature.

The right-click and 2-finger scrolling work just fine on Vista, however.

    Thanks Sheldon,

So far I haven't found any alternative drivers to fix this issue. I did find another discrepancy in the touchpad use between OS X and Vista though. I noticed in OS X, the touchpad kind of disables itself from inadvertent input while typing. In Vista, however, this disabling doesn't happen. If anyone has a fix for this or enabling tap-clicking on the touchpad on Vista, let me know.

Sidenote: Also, in a different thread, I asked about a clock issue that occurs when dual booting OS X and Vista. When switching between OS's, the time gets messed up. Apparently, this is a known issue with running both OS X and Vista, and I guess there are some kinds of fixes for it out on the internet.

im just saying it's possible, not to be cynical but maybe its intentional on apple's part, so for that reason i dont see a fix coming from them, or maybe they're saving it for the offical final release of bootcamp. but i would suggest looking for a third party fix.
