Sorry, I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death and I've done some initial research, but would like some feedback based on my situation.

I have recently installed some games on Bootcamp, Windows 7 64bit. I'm running the i5 Macbook Pro mid 2010 model with the 330m GT card and 256mb graphic memory. I'm finding that all Source games run very smoothly and am especially happy that Bad Company 2 runs at native resolution (1440x900) @ 30+ (and a very smooth 30fps at that, which seems a little odd for me). Anyway...

I have been monitoring my gpu temps and I have hit a max temp of 89c, which makes me a bit nervous. However, when I exit out of a game the gpu temp seems to be around 70 or so and drops pretty quickly. Is it correct to say the reason for this is that the mbp fans don't kick in soon enough? Hence, the reason why I have hit a max of 89c, yet directly after exiting the temps look fine.

I've done some research on fan control software and it sounds like lubbo's is a good option. Is the idea to keep the slowest fan speed at like 3-3.5k and lower the upper temp threshold to something lower than default? Here's a screenshot of the software: http://sourceforge.net/dbimage.php?id=224842.

This is my first time using fan control software. I just want to make sure I understand. If I set it to 3.5k, it will start at that speed thus keeping temps cooler. Then by setting the upper threshold lower, means the fans will spin faster sooner, keeping the gpu cooler. Do I have that right?

    Thanks!!!

    you basically have that right.

I have my low temp at something like 50c @3100rpm or something

I have my high temp at something like 70c @ max speed.

that way, when my cpu/gpu hit 70, the fan maxes out. temps usually hang below 80c for the GPU and below 90c for the CPU, both of which are acceptable.

Awesome, thanks. A few other questions come to mind:

1.) Do these settings stick in Windows? Or do I need to set them each time?
2.) Do these setting stick in OS X? I'd rather not since I won't be pushing the hardware much.

Those settings will stick only in Windows and only as long as the fan software is set to autostart when you boot to Windows.

I monitor my temps everytime I game in bootcamp - Win7 Ultimate 64-bit.

89C has been my maximum in SC2 sessions when I don't use a fan control, meaning I let it max out when the system wants to.

When I use SMC fan at max and reboot or when Lubbos worked (switched to 64-bit and doesn't work) I had fans at max and temps stayed a few degrees to like 86C. If I elevate the back using one of my cheap external fans from Best Buy + the fan control it's around 76C max.

I believe it's in windows. Windows has always had a temperature problem when gaming on a mac.

Windows has a temperature problem even when not gaming... I see at least a 10c difference between Windows in BootCamp and OSX when both are running iddle...
