"• DVD player has been able to play HD-DVDs for a long time. It has blu-ray and HD-DVD settings in prefs now."

I was just cruising the macrumors.com site and saw this, apparently it's true. Has anyone had experience? The optical drive can read both??

Ummm, they haven't even released dual-format drives for any platform yet...notebook, desktop, standalone players, anything.
So I guess that is a rumor...that is not true.

They might be talking about HDCP, so that HD formats will work?

Well it might be that they added and it could be an option down the line.

Software wouldn't have that type of option for the two, as far as I know.

It's the hardware that comes down to it. The type of laser and such.
