Hi guys, my macbook black is arriving hopefully on monday. I was wondering if any of you tried connecting the macbook to an lcd tv?

    I have a Samsung LNR732 TV. It´s a 720p capable 1366x768 panel.
I have an available VGA input. HDMI is already taken by my receiver.

My question is, is it possible to connect my macbook? I guess i´ll have to get the mini DVI to VGA adapter. But the real question is, is that resolution supported by the macbook??

    Any experiences with it?

I'm not sure... I think it supports 1360x768.

1366x768 is a PITA when it comes to connecting it as a monitor. My desktop never wants to output that, only 1360x768, which causes some weird issues sometimes.

I don't believe my Macbook can output 1366x768 (been ages since I did it), but I know for certain it can do 720p. 720p will look excellent on your television, by the way.

Budding so even if it´s not the native resolution of the TV you are saying it will look ok??? I guess i´ll just have to get the adaptor and give it a shot. Thanks!

Actaully, it will depend on the TV. Some TVs will map the pixels, others will attempt to take the 1360 pixels and add in 6 more pixels. This will RUIN the picture. Text is almost completely unreadable.

I eventually got my desktop to do 1366x768 and it was a major difference. It was a massive pain to do that in XP with an ATI card though.

From what I understand, many TVs will not try to add the 6 extra pixels if you use the VGA though, so it may look okay vs. the DVI. If you want more info, I suggest asking around on avforums.com ... those people know their TVs and generally know what to do or how to get the best pic from a computer.

If you are planning on using your TV as your desktop monitor, then it would be a very bad idea as you will be either sitting too close and everything will look pixellated, or too far and everything will appear too small.

Do not forget that there is a reason why normal computer LCDs have resolutions of 1900x1200+ on panels of size 22" on greater. 1366x768 pixels on a 32" panel is simply not enough for it to be used as a working screen, especially since most text nowadays is displayed in approx. 12pt font size.

The TV will be great for playing back movies and videos from your Mac, however. 720p is a HD format after all.

Thanks guys for the answers! Budding don't worry!!! i was planning on using it to output HD video content only. I'd never try to use it as a desktop monitor. My eyes would last a couple of days with that kind of setup.
