Too little too late for me. I dumped Blackberry months ago because they couldn't get their act together. I'm much happier with the iPhone.

I'd probably be happier with an iPhone too, but I don't want anything to do with AT&T until they get their act together. I'd be very happy if the iPhone came to Verizon. Time will tell.

Your a stronger person than I am. I left Verizon just for the iPhone. I'll kick myself it Apple takes it to Verizon but its still worth it.

It's not that great at handling syncing of contacts if you have more than one phone, like me. I'm getting duplicate contacts on my bold, iPhone an address book because there is no option to do a one way sync from my bold to my mac. Guess I'll have to wait for 1.5

Downloaded it already but haven't had a chance to use it yet. From the Engadget hands-on it looks promising. Thank you RIM for removing the last thing I needed windows at home for. :)

Awesome, that was the only thing keeping me from getting a blackberry. Let's hope they keep adding features to it.

Its great news! If only I had a Blackberry :p.

I'm actually really caught right now between a Blackberry Bold 9700 (not out yet, but will be in about a month) and an iPhone 3G S. Blackberry for keyboard (email and SMS) and battery life, iPhone 3G S for an insanely good browser and apps. What should I do?! :D

If the carriers were the same, the iPhone apps would probably be the deciding factor, but I think the inability to run background apps would really annoy me. Currently I have a Storm which has taken a beating in the press, but really hasn't been that bad when using later software versions (official or beta). 5.x will definitely make the experience better, but at some point RIM is going to need to move past the JAVA OS IMHO. According to RIM they will have a iPhone class browser by next summer. Apparently they purchased a mobile web browser company. Until then Opera 5 beta is pretty good. I think the 3G S has made some good moves, but I'd like to see more. My contract isn't up for another 8 months so I am just going to wait and see what the smartphone players come up with next.

Good luck with that decision Sam!

The BB DM worked perfectly BTW. My windows machine at home now does absolutely nothing important. I'm not going to hold my breath for new features and will have BB DM installed on my bootcamp partition for installing those leaked OS's. :D

First I had a Curve 8310, which was pretty cool, but I found it lacking in some areas, like responsiveness, screen quality, etc. Then I sold it and bought an iPhone 3G, which was great, everything about it, and with Mobile Me OTA sync, it was even better, but like the guy above me said, the inability to run 3rd party apps in the background is a real bummer, even now with push enabled, your battery gets drain a lot quicker, so battery life sucks even more, so what I did was scrap the voice plan and keep the iPhone for data only, and got a BB Bold on february. Best decision I've ever made.

Even though the OS is not as nice as iPhone OS, it all comes down to two things: what you want or what you need.

I have about 80 friends and family members with a blackberry, so BB messenger is just a godsend. Being able to chat real-time instead of sending texts, and having the little "read" confirmation checks next to each block text I send is awesome, specially given how crappy some networks can be, you never really know if someone really got your message you sent them over Beejive or Windows Live Messenger, or whatever.

So for me, what wins me over is how fast I can type on the keyboard, BB Messenger, and instant push email, though email is not really a major factor since the iPhone does it just as well (if it's push or exchange) and looks a lot nicer. And of course the ability to do a lot at once, have a lot of apps running and not taking a hit on battery life is what makes the phone usable. In the end, the iPhone is a phone I want, while the Bold is the phone I need. I am lucky enough to be able to own both, so I just use the iPhone as a gaming device, on the go browser, iPod, etc, and the blackberry for everything else, and it works out pretty well.

I too will be upgrading to a 9700 as soon as it comes out. The better camera, smaller form factor and trackpad will be welcome additions; though I have yet to experience crappy trackballs, my mother had to change hers three times on her old Pearl 8120 (she now has an 8310), and my brother's Bold is also done for, but it's easy enough to replace so I guess it's no biggie.

It is still pretty cumbersome to carry two devices, plus I have another phone for work, runs on a more reliable EVDO network and has unlimited data for when I'm on the field. I really want to ditch one, but I can't live without the iPhone's media capabilities, or the brower. Still, if I really had to give one away it would be the iPhone, just because like I said before, the Bold has a lot of features I need. If Apple wants me to ditch my blackberry, then it's gonna have to do more than just upgrade the camera and add a few features next time around, battery life being the most important, and I think a lot of people wouldn't mind a bit of extra thickness if it means getting through the day with at least 20% left in the tank.

    Cheers

It is nice to see that BB actually did follow through this however...Getting my iphone next year (april-may when I qualify for low prices), and I have an ipod touch for music and apps, so meh. Plus my 8310 speaker is broken and the only way I know a call is coming in is via vibrate, and even that is weak. I basically just use the BB now for calls and text, I got the fallout pipboy theme going and all. Actually I might dump smart phones all together now that I got a touch. $30 for data when I am paying $18 for my ACUTAL DSL CONNECTION.
