And yet here all the apple stores here, try to tell me that black sells the most. Ya right!

I woulnd't mind a black one (even know I already have white) but I saved myself quite a bit of money and used that towards APP and my 2GB of memory I now have.

Plus I don't like hearing about this black smudges and whatnot the blacks are having. White is perfectly fine, imo it stands out among the crowd, and I'm proud to show I use Apple.

Black is very sharp looking and deviates from its predecessors. A $200 premium? I hope it has a more durable finish.

It doesn't the matte finish is reported to rub off fairly easy, I still yet to hear anything about Apple doing anything on it, its considered cosmetic and doesn't cause any weird discolorations so it doesn't fall under something Apple would consider important.

If Im correct the black has a smudge/smear problem and the white has the yellow staining right?

Simple solution, dont rest palms on it while typing :).

I find it hard to believe, when the Apple guys say black sells the best. Id rather use that $200 towards RAM.

I might be picking one up Friday, I just finally managed to find a retailer with them in stock - the 2GB white that is.

One concern I have is, Im noticing a lot of the MBs have the squarish vertical enter keys, which I dont like. Is there any way I can tell if I get one with a standard PC like "retangular" enter key or the upside down L shaped key.

    I say neither.

Black is better at being black than white is at being white. "White" is actually off-white, which I hate. I like the looks of the G4 iBook, since it really is white. Both the G4 iBook and the black MacBook look sharp. If I was a person that liked black items, I'd say black, but I'm not, so it's neither/G4.

Hmm, My macbook has two Enter keys, One that is retangular and one that is square, yes the Retangular one is also labeled as return.

I have yet to see any yellow staining, I take it your talking about the discoloration issue, but thats been resolved by Apple, anyone who has that issue needs to contact AppleCare. I have a ShieldZone InvisableShield on my palmrest area so I'm not concerned about that.

I think the 'off-white' is awesome, it gives the notebook some contrast which is always welcomed especially to those that deal in arts and creative stuff. Many professors and Artist will state that everything needs some contrast.

I hope you know what I mean between the two shaped return/enter keys. But this is the one I DONT want. I dont think i could ever use a keyboard with the main key shaped like that.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxdK-bZQ698&search=macbook

What are the odds of getting a standard rectangle one?

The black looks a bit cheaper quality, however it looks good still. I think i just enjoy the glossy look of the white one.

I got a standard retangle Enter/Return key and a normal square enter key.

I have never seen that key shaped that way on a notebook before, chances are that notebook is from a foreign country, not the USA. I haven't seen that in the stores that I've been too that carries Apple.

Really? ya thats what i was thinking since no laptops sell with that bad designed key lol :p

Also is the macbook built as well as the ibook or even IBM thinkpads? keyboard wise and stuff.

Im so tempted to get one...oh boy

    Built well like thinkpads?

Frick yeah it is, I almost feel like I could take my Macbook and slam it again the wall a few times or hit a baseball with it, and it'd still work fine. (I don't recommend doing this at all. lol) But the quality I feel is awesome.

Some complain about its weight, but everyone places weight at a different level, I for one feel weight plays a part in quality and durability. 5.6 lbs (I think thats it) really isn't that much at all. If it is, than hit the weight room! ;)

That sounds good. So, does typing on a MB feel like a desktop keyboard? Solidity wise.

I must resist as much as I can, but boy Im very tempted. I have a buyer for my VAIO if I wanted to get a Macbook this weekend. I got offered $850cdn for my vaio.

Still going back and fourth between selling my vaio for a macbook or getting a n XBOX 360 :p

It's more like typing on a notebook keyboard, because well it is a notebook keyboard, but the response and feel is very solid and tactile, doesn't have any flex in it at all or anything. I don't know if that answers your question or not.

just a matter if you want a computer or a gaming console. :p

I presonally LOVE my Macbook, and I'm planning on my next Apple is going to be a MBP, but it has to be smaller than 15.4" if I'm going to even consider it. however thats years down the road anyways. My MB is the best notebook purchase I made as of yet, and OS X is just awesome.

^ Well Ive been told that the MB can play games no problem (more so than any PC laptop with onboard video). Can I install any PC game on it? If so, then this might convince me to get one and just use that to play games (since I dont game a whole lot anyways). But if the MB can play them, then i can just use that for it...for the time being.

I just wish the MB had the Pro keyboard. Now that is a sweet keyboard to type on, super short travel with the keys.

If you use Boot Camp and install Windows XP than yes, but you'll need to be sure you add the extra ram. I've seen clips of it playing Half Life 2 under Windows XP, but expect the notebook to get hot because Windows XP's power management doesn't really have support for MB or MBP, so it runs hotter, and I hear the battery life under XP is absolutely horrible, again XP's power management.

As for MB's keyboard, it's awesome and many I've met prefer it over MBPs. I'm fine with them both either way.

Though mind you, I should be shot for even considering selling off a 4 month old notebook.

I kind of agree with you on this point, i personally think MBP's keyboard is nice, but prefer MB's over it. I feel that MB's keyboard feels more solid and for some reason I get this whole sense of cheap plastic on MBP's keys, even know I'm sure its not.

Wish I could keep both, but 1) cant afford it 2) bills 3) no use for 2 computers. Though i wouldnt mind a macbook with a cheap desktop...but i just wouldnt use two. Would rather have macbook and 360 :p

Also the vaio cant run games period lol. Im upset i didnt wait for the MB when i bought this, but i had no choice since my old laptop died and i needed a replacement pretty much that same day.

Well I like the white (what is off-white, I don't get it? BTW when I bought my Macbook it was side-by-side on a stand with an iBook G4 12" and I could see no difference) better. Very Happy it is the cheaper of the two.

The iBook was barely cheaper, some 10%. I think some uninformed people who have no idea what's on the inside may buy it based only on its smaller size (there was this girl asking about the iBook, she didn't seem remotely interested in the Macbook; when the salesman explained that it didn't run Windows, she wouldn't get it, lol). Anyways I guess it is old stock they are getting rid of.

Saw the white today - sexy. Very tempted to sell my vaio to the dude tommorow (gotta call him soon or he will walk away) and buy the white 2.0.

From what i would sell the vaio at and what the MB would cost me with tax and 2GB ram, it would be $1000 difference out of my pocket.

    Steep....for a 4 month of Vaio.

I paid $1200 for the vaio back in march. Now it is $899, just saw it yesterday. Also put $200 worth of upgrades into it (ram and hd). So with taxes I spent about $1500. But then I was able to sell off my old parts and get good money for it, lowering my total spent on it to $1300 with taxes.....which aint so bad.

I guess its not that bad when I think about it. $850 for a notebook I paid $1300 for with taxes and upgrades back in march. $450 loss. What makes it not so bad is the fact I was able to sell off my old parts at the time.

Aluminum Silver. Those Pro's look incredible. But between those choices then Black.

For pc switchers who aren't buying the "Apple knows best" mentality then white just isnt cool. It looks great in a pure white room but in the real world ive always thought it looked a bit femme or toy-ish.

Matte Black isnt much better but it does remind you of the old lombards so thats my choice. The problem of course is that a $200 premium just to look "normal" is hard to justify.

Ive been ready to buy since the MB came out. But I'm just waiting it out to see if the next revision offers black as a base model. If that doesnt happen I'll just get another PC laptop and then try to switch again in 2 years.

Wow, all that just for color huh?

Somehow I think the OS justifies everything, just because of the color you are going to miss out on it for a another couple years and deal with the other stuff.

Guess I can only commend you for taking such a route. g'luck.

If you ever used an iPod, its basically the same feel and type of plastic.

So yes it's suspectable to scratches, for me however I use invisibleshield on my macbook, which protects both from scratches as well as anything that could come from my dirty hands.

Well its transparent, its not invisible otherwise I wouldn't have found it in its packaging when I got it. :)

It does its job wonderfully though, already the palm rest area protected it from staining from my hands, checking under the shield shows its still white and scratch free as the day I got it.

You can get an invisible shield from their website, shieldzone.com. Or you can get a similar product for half the price from bestskinsever.com. The Apple Store sells a sleeve made by incase for the macbook.

I like the black macbook. I put an invisible shield on it, and it looks even better. I used the white macbook for a week and I just felt funny using it in real world enviornments.

How easy are the smudges and imprints (eg. from sweaty palms) that the black picks up to get rid of? Can you just use a microfiber or similar cloth to wipe such stains/fingerprints?

white; because it looks more unique and oh so glossy, and suite my iPod too! for some reason the black one doesn't really stand out as an apple product and doesn't really tickle my tastebud. if they were to price the black one the same as the white macbook; i still pick the white one.

and thats not because i have the white version :p !

edit: oh! though the black one has several advantages over the white macbook!

the matte finish is harder to scratch! my glossy polycarbonate macbook is very scratch prone. it even scratch inside my belkin laptop case!

I liked the black and thats what I was going to get until I decided the 13" might be a little too small for my tastes.

And call me crazy I may just be weird but it would have bugged the crap out of me having a black notebook and white power adapter. Haha

I have a white Asus W5F and it usually gets mistaken for a Mac. I'm about to return my Sony SZ360 because, quite frankly, its carbon fiber finish is mighty boring! In fact, it's actually brown and I won't get caught dead with a brown lappy.

I guess that once you get used to flashy computers, dull black ones just strike me as too "dell." Hehe. :D So my vote is for glossy white. In fact, I like my computers like I like my women's lips: glossy and luscious! :)
