Im in the process of buying a laptop for college and am a user of bittorent, and I need to know. Is there alot of compatible bittorent clients for the mac os, or would it be significantly harder to find a good one vs. windows

Mac is a good way to go. There are just as many Bittorent clients for Mac and Windows. Get the MacBook Pro you will not regreat it. I wish I had gotten the MAC Book PRO instead of the dell xps m1330. anyway let me know how it works out for you. Also do a google and serach for bittorrent for mac and you will see loads of quality clients.

cdnaisi, I totally agree with you.Transmission IS the best bit torrent client in my opinion,it takes up very little system resource.

    Transmission is great.
    Opera is good.
    Tomato is alright.
    Azereus is sub-par.

Does transmission support DHT yet? DHT is pretty much a must have nowadays, which is one of the reasons I'm using Azureus.

I'm not sure on DHT yet, but they did add IP block-list. It is very nicely integrated and is very slick. Transmission is good, and getting better with each revision.

I don't think transmission supports DHT yet.

No, I don't think it does. However, I believe its being worked into the backend of transmission (based on KadC). Its just not high on the list.

Transmission, Azureus are the popular Mac BitTorrent clients. I'd like to remind everyone that NBR does not allow or support the use of BitTorrent and other P2P networks to illegally download files like movies and music!

Frostwire is good, but transmission is a a better independent application.

Other then the fact that ive been using azueus for years, thats another reason why I use it.

Helps a lot if you have rogers as an isp, or anyone else that throttles.

I trust Azureus on any platform. I strongly suggest picking an open source client. Transmission, when I used it in Linux, was a bit lacking. I /think/ Deluge has a Mac port?

i wouldnt say there are as many bittorrent clients for mac as there is for windows, but there are plenty of good ones out there. i originally went with transmission but after a while it was a bit lacking, so i switched to azureus which although is better has terribly annoying "dashboard" feature that i cant find how to turn off. also like another here im eagerly waiting a utorrent port.

I've been using BitRocket. Transmission has been inconsistent in its use for me, and Azureus hasn't been playing nice with my system for whatever reason (might be OS X 10.5.2). BitRocket has been as close to uTorrent as I've come across, though I very rarely use torrent applications.

But of course! I only use bit torrent for legal things like linux distributions and homemade... stuff.
