Hi, the game isn't released yet and the demo isn't out either to try it out. Only the xbox 360 demo is available. Which i'll add is incredible!

it'll run thats for sure but how well is the question. im getting my mbp with 128mb vram tomorrow and i'll bench it as soon as i can get it with bioshock, im hoping for some real good performance because i couldnt justify $700 for an extra 128mb of ram, and with turbo cache im thinking it'll be alright.
good news about the 128mb gddr3 is that it benches about the same as the 512mb/256mb version of the 8600m gt with ddr2 ram. but the difference between synthetic and real benches could be a problem.

hehe Sheldon I made a similar posting earlier on your regards to the vid cards, I agree with you TOTALLY:

    I got

    2.2 Ghz, 120Gb, 128 8600 gt vid card

    for 700$ more

2.4 Ghz, 160 Gb, 256 8600 gt vid card.... I mean come on apple give me some options... I'll take choice #1 with the better vid card.. but not for 700$ more

How do you have a 2.16 GHz MBP with an 8600GT? You either have a 2.16/667 with an x1600 or you have a 2.2/800 with an 8600GT; there was no in-between options with the Macbook Pro.

This is an educated guess on my part...

I think even those of use with the 256MB 8600M GT will be lucky to play Bioshock with any kind of decent settings, at least at 1440x900.

    Yeah.

I'm thinking my current desktop would even struggle with Bioshock at higher settings, and my system was top of the line 6 months ago.

With low VRAM the way to increase performance is in the textures, set these to as low as possible and you'll probably get decent performance

I just finished playing the bioshock demo on my MPB. First let me just say it was quite the experience. As far as my system specs go, i was running it on high settings with 1024x640 resolution and it ran very very smooth. (this is with the 128mb X1600). I also tried playing it in native resolution, 1440x900, which was quite playable but just not smooth enough for me. All in All bioshock works fine, and the game it self is really unique and different.

Can you tell us your min, avg, & max fps for the resolution you played on? Thanks.

what i want to see is a comparison between the 128mb and 256mb 8600m gt's using bioshock because i think that'll give us a good comparison between the 2 cards, even though i have the 128mb version i still would love to see this but havent got vista going on my mbp yet, so if anyone wants to do some benchmarks for us?

Ok, so I downloaded and gave it a go on my MBP 2.2 128. On 1280x800 with almost everything maxed out, I was averaging about 25 fps, with a minimum being around 15 and the max being around 50. I'll post some screenshots in the morning but I gotta get to bed. Just givin you guys an idea of how it runs on the 128..... Oh, also it's the 163.44 drivers (the new ones). no overclock.

How about tests at native resolution? That is the easiest comparison. Native res, near-max but not quite max options (specify options so other people can compare, too). Is there a video stress test option in the game for easy benchmarking?

No video stress test that I know of... at least in the demo, maybe the full game will have one.

For those of you that have gotten the demo to work, what drivers were you using? I am using the standard Boot Camp 1.1 drivers and am experiencing the crash where it stops working after the BioShock logo is shown. I can't update the drivers because the nVidia installer doesn't recognize my 8600 gt for some reason.

Anyone that could lend me a hand?

    Running: BioShock Demo on:
    2.4Ghz MPB
    Bootcamp running Vista Home Premium
nVidia driver (from device manager): 7.15.11.134 - Boot Camp

You have to go to laptopvideo2go.com and download the driver there yourself. Remember to download the modded inf file and replace the original one with the modded one. Then you should be all set.

I just ran it on my mbp 128meg vram. Didnt have fraps though, I'll try get it next time I play it. On 1440 resolution, definitely a bit laggy and choppy (max quality settings). I then ran it on 1024/768, it was much more smooth and playable (though it wasn't perfect). I am using the standard bootcamp 1.1 drivers, so perhaps if I upgrade them, I'll notice a better improvement.
