I can't see my sisters laptop (win xp) on the network (I think its her firewall) but I need to be able to send files to it. Whats the best way for me to direct connect to it so I can just send the file?

Well, if the file's not too big you could just send it using Messenger

If using a network is out of the question, then it would either have to be physical (using a disk) or as mentioned, using a file transfer client such as messenger or megaupload/rapidshare/senduit.

However, seeing as you're on a Mac, try going to Finder and then hold in Command and press K, then type smb://your-sister's-IP-address/ and see if you can get access to it.

You have to make sure you have followed the proper setup on Windows first.

Go to control panel - Network Connections - Set up a home or small office network (located in the common tasks pane to the left), and just follow the wizard. Restart, done.

On your mac you have to enable file sharing with windows computers inside sys preferences.

If that does not work, use a usb drive :p

you shouldn't even have to enable anything on your mac, as long as you have a shared folder on your PC and have set up a network, you should see the PC on your mac quite easily.

hmm if you're on your own LAN why not disable the winxp firewall for a moment.
Or in her firewall rule set enable file/ printersharing.
Or if that's to complicated -> maybe an USB stick?
