Okay, So I need a new laptop, well... a laptop... for college coming up.
I was looking at amazon... it would $2,277.96 for the 15" 2.4 ghz, with 3 year apple care, and Microsoft office.
To buy it from apple.com, it would be $2,287.95, but you have to add tax... so.. $2,425.22... with the same thing.
Both, free shipping. Obviously, Amazon is cheaper.
But is there a down side to buying it from amazon instead? Also, we are trying to pay for it monthly.. so what does amazon offer for that?

If your going to use it for college coming up as in September, I suggest you wait until summer. There should be a few hardware upgrades done to the MBP and maybe even equipped with Snow Leopard, you'll also catch the Back to school deal where you get a free ipod, which you can choose to either sell or keep. That promotion only works with the Apple store. If you use the Apple store you can also get a student discount that should bring the price down to much closer to the amazon pricing and you can get a free printer after rebate.

Nope, no difference in the product. As for payments, um apple products have the downside, you can do it for amazon i believe with their credit card and for apple you can aswell, but it's not interest free! So you would be paying more.
If you want a mac, maybe take a loan out (just an idea) and then pay it off at low interest. Or you can get a PC like dell, hp, sony, which all offer payment plans without interest.

Dell is great on that 12 months interest free, cant beat that!!

I bought mine from Apple.com because I wanted to customize my order. I opted for the 320gb @7200 rather than the slower version that shipped by default.

But if you're not customizing like I was, and just buying the default configurations then you should be able to get those cheaper than Apple.com

Ya.. I was thinking of waiting until the summer... But its killing me without a computer to handle the programs I use...

I am going for mac, because I am going for graphic design and you can't beat their design quality. But which one has interest free? Amazon?

Ya.. I was thinking of customizing it, but its cheaper to do it yourself.

    HOLD ON Kevzaz

I just thought about that. Get it at best buy, you get 24 months interest free!!!!

With amazon it's no interest free.

If you pay a little more, does it matter?

Because you will have 24 months to pay it off. A bargain in my opinion.

18 months is the current offer, not 24.

And unless Kevzaz has a well established credit history (spotless 3 years+), or cosigners (parents) with a well established credit history, don't expect to get approved by Amazon's financier (JPMorgan Chase Bank, NA) or Best Buy's (HSBC Bank, NA) for a line ANYWHERE near what he's looking to spend.

Heck, even people with really good credit have been known to get crappy lines with HSBC Bank's cards.

It's worth applying, if you have well established credit or someone to cosign who has well established credit, but keep in mind you may not be able to get approved for that amount, or anywhere near it.

    Just to make that known.

Woah, haha, you know your stuff. But my parents just bought a brand new tv from best buy and got the 18 month interest free. So, I think if they buy it, and I just pay them, it would work. But bestbuy doesn't offer applecare do they?

Do you absolutely need a mac now ? That is, can you make do with a windows laptop for another year ?
If so, then I'd suggest getting a dell (business) latitude laptop for $700 or so off dell outlet (they come with 3 year warranties); sell it next year and get the 2010 MBP which will be a significant upgrade with Nehalem CPUs and possibly USB 3.0

If you buy using credit, then your final cost for a MBP will be Current cost + interest which is like 20% which works out to $2700. And you should think if thats really worth it.

Another option is to get a used MBP with either the 3 year applecare on it, that allows adding applecare on. You should be able to get it for $1400

I don't really like buying stuff off of ebay.. lol

Well, I need it for school, I am majoring in graphic design, and not having a good laptop for school would be kinda silly. Especially if I put it on my student loan.

Does anyone know if Apple offers a student discount on refurbished macbooks? I'm looking into getting a Mac now, but I don't want to get one with the onboard video. I would prefer it to be nvidia gfx on there. I could only see the new aluminum model refurbished for $1,099. It may be a while for me, cause I'm selling my ASUS N10J-A1, so I'll still be short. Unless you know of somewhere else that has refurb macbooks?

EDIT: Just realized this was about the MacBook Pro... my bad...

Also contact your school/dept to see if they have special purchase prices in summer. My old univ used to get a MBP batch in summer for new incoming students with prices 20% below apple education store.

No problem from buying from Amazon. I bought it after Christmas and there was a $100 rebate on top of the lower price.

Amazon is cheaper but if you have to finance it, it won't be. However they have these options

There is an Amazon credit card that discounts your 1st purchase.
