I can screen share no problems with my new Mac Mini from my MBP on the local network. However, I don't know an easy way to do this when I'm not on my local network (i.e. I'm out and want to control my Mac Mini when using WiFi).

Anyone got any tips for this? Thanks!

I've been using "back to my mac" when I go to the apple store to show them problems I've been having. I just tried logmein and I must say it works very well and from within a browser. This is the feature I wish "back to my mac" had. The only glitch I noticed was that logmein kept trying to install the windows (msi) software on my Macbook. I had to keep trying several times before I was finally offered a dmg file.

Logmein is another reason I might drop mobile me when the renewal comes around...

Write down your IP, and have your router port forward 3283 (TCP and UDP), 5900 and 5988 (Both TCP) to the Mini.

That should allow you to get in externally, and should make sure that every function works.

Keep in mind, it'll be kinda slow from a remote location.

Edit; I'm assuming you are using Apple's remote desktop app... correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the replies. For a dynamic IP, logmein.com works perfectly! Thanks for that tip. Modly, thanks for your tip, too, but for a static IP your tip would be better. :)

My dynamic IP hasn't changed since I've been in Oregon, and I had the same IP with comcast for 2.5 years, and kept the previous one for 2 years.

If you really wanted to get crafty, you could register a domain and get DynDNS installed. You could make a quick PHP script that displays your IP, so when you get in a browser, you can quickly find your IP address by visiting your domain.

Yep that's true. A friend suggested that today, too! However, for my simple needs, logmein.com works perfectly. But a useful tip there Modly. Thanks!
