How do you define best? Are you a professional benchmarker? Do you want the most battery life? Do you want the best value?

List these in terms of their importance to you.

Sequential speed (good if you do a lot of large file transfers)
4k speed (makes it feel faster during general use)
power consumption (the lower it is, the longer the battery life)
capacity (within a certain price range, you can either get a larger capacity or better performance, but what good is better performance if you can't fit everything on it. name the minimum capacity you can comfortably use)

I am planning to put an ssd in my MBP because I don't like the heat on the left palm rest, where the hdd is.
Any one fell any difference in term of heat using their ssd?

They can all get hot if you run a Skype video and some Youtube videos with or without a SSD.

Get an SSD with Sandforce controller. They do very well under OS X.

OCZ Agility 2, Vertex, Onyx 2, Corsair Force, Patriot Inferno etc.

OCZ Onyx 2 120GB will soon be selling for less than $200.

I have an OCZ Vertex 2 x with Optibay in my MBP, and an Intel 160 gb in my desktop. The Vertex 2 running OSX and i haven't seen any slow downs what so ever. The intel drive has Windows X64 as does my Second Vertex 2 in my MBP, both have been solid no issues or complaints here.

If I was buying right now go with the Vertex 2 or sandforce controller drives. But for right now I would hang off until the new Intel G3 arrive. Cheaper with larger storage.
