Hey guys, looking for the best and easiest program out there for converting video files to work on ipad/iphone/ipod. It doesn't matter if it's paid or free as long as it gets the job done good. Just don't go crazy on me with some $200 programs :D

You could try your luck with Handbrake. I don't really use it on my Macbook because my hardware is a little dated but it does have presets for iPod and iPhone, among other things.

I don't know off the top of my head what kind of input sources it allows but it is worth checking out. And it's free!

Yes, Handbrake does its purpose well - if I remember correctly its from DVD-to-iPod/iPad/iPhone though.

That's what I thought, too. I did, however, manage to open up some different video files (in Windows, mind you) and it recognized them. I started to encode an XVID to check and it did start the conversion. I didn't finish it, though, because I was only checking to see if it could handle sources other than VOB.

I haven't gotten it to start converting my *.TS files, though. It recognizes the file but won't start the encoding process. Perhaps it's because the *.TS is from an HD-DVD of mine, which is H264? I'm not sure. Those are tricky files to deal with. I have yet to find software that can do a good job of converting them.

    Handbrake is great software, regardless.

As soon you connect to your ipod or whatever device to the computer. you have the option to convert to ipod and upload it.

It said you watch on stream BUT you will have the option to upload to iTune and sync it as movie type then you have your video on the go.

Handbrake cuts my .avi's in half size wise. Works well on both mac and PC. The preset buttons for iPhone resizing work great.

I'd also mention how quick it works, but I"m on an i720. Your mileage may vary

I was going to suggest tmgenc express 4 but it's for Windows only.

    +1 for handbrake.
used to always suggest visualhub, which is also not a bad utility. Its now no longer... but you might find a copy lurking in the depths of the internet...its only advantage over handbrake is its ability to join multiple files into one.
But the latest version of handbrake is the king for speed and quality.

ps there is also quicktime (pro) although not free.

I'd suggest Handbrake as well (hopping on the bandwagon!). I've not used it extensively, but it did the trick for converting a few short videos I showed in classed.
