I would like an all inclusive iphone headset that also works well for movies and games on a pc. I do not care about size, but i dont want anything to bassy or cheap sounding. I have given up on apples products, the standard iphone headset breaks way too easily on me. (THE REMOTE PART). I was also wondering where all the new headsets (the iphone one with volume control, and the high end one) are that they said would be released.

BTW: My budget is under 40. Thanks

it sounds like you need apple's in ear headphones. they are pretty solid quality and retail around 70. i don't know what options there are at the 40$ mark.

No headset will work with its mic on any mac (or pc) without an adapter.

The headphones themselves will work just fine, bu you just wont have a mic.

Actually the new alu mb and mbp are supposed to allow the use of the mic and button to advance tracks etc.
From the apple Tech specs page
"Supports Apple Stereo Headset with microphone"

So in theory any iphone headset should work with the new alu books and have functional mic and button controls.

Now onto the best headphones. Your 40 budget is gonna make it tough. My suggestion is to look for something with in ear style buds like the new apple ones.

I have the Sennheiser mm50ip headphones which are about the same price as the new apple ones... and I'm quite happy with those...although I think the new apples ones would be a better choice.

At your price range about the only ones I know of are the Griffin TuneBuds Mobile. These should provide an improvement over the stock buds without breaking the bank (RRP $39.95)

    That is correct, Underpantman.

If the headset has a four-conductor jack like this:

Then the new unibody Macbooks and Macbook Pros will recognize the microphone.

edit: I bought this Shure adapter for my Shure in-ears to use with the iPhone, and they also work on my 2.53 Unibody MBP.

So basically with that, you can use any headphones you want and have the mic from the adapter.

Sorry to be clear i meant, i just want to use them on the macbook pro for light gaming and movies. So they need to be powerful, as well. I just use the macbook pro mic, its great, no problems.

I have some Sennhesier mm 50ip's and I'm very very happy with the sound quality of them. The Mic works just fine with the iPhone as well, so one can expect it to work just fine with the macbook and macbook pro as well.

Yea, then pretty much youre just looking for any normal headphones/earphones. You might wanna ask in another forum, for people who know more specifically about headphones.

And thats interesting, I never read anything about the headphones working in the newer macbooks, nor was it mentioned anywhere.

But it looks like they do work, with all the functionality too of the remote. source
