I love Leopard, I've been a Windows user all my life and I really want to switch to Mac. What's the best place to get a Macbook pro right now? (the ones on sale). My campus apple store has it for $1499 + tax + free printer. Is there a better deal anywhere else?
Buying a MBP is out of my budget. I was originally going to get the XPS M1530. I'm into photography, movies, web, light gaming, would a Mac suit my needs better than a PC? Convince me cos I'm stretching my budget and I don't want to regret later on after I've bought it. Should I wait till summer and see if they have a new redesign? I would love a redesign for the MBP. Thanks.

is that the new(penryn) one?

Wait for the redesign... like I am. It is coming, just be patient.

Stunner, one day, when you do get a MBP and are willing to sell your T60, let me know I will take it off your hands.

1499 is a GREAT deal even if it isnt a penryn! You can get a refurb off apple.com for 1499, but why bother if you can get it new from your school store.
I don't think the non penryn macbooks support multi-touch though. can someone Clarify? -
1499 with a printer isnt bad. I got this one for 1799 with the student discount...but the warranty was another 260 after the 110 discount as well. then figure on office or iwork, and a mouse....so its never exactly 1500!
I just made a website with iweb and I love it. You wont be sorry you got one, no matter what model. -

The Macbook Pros before the Penryn macbook pros do not offer the multi-touchpad.
It's a great deal. The only difference between the old macbook pro(one before penryn) and the new macbook pro will only be the Battery life, processor, and video card(now offers 512mb GDDR3). -
I just want to point out that, if you do get the MBP, you will probably need to grab a copy of Windows as well, particularly if you're gaming. Most of the people who game on Macs run it on Windows via Bootcamp. That will increase your costs.

I guess it depends on how into photography you are and what software you use. The matte screen will be much better for photos than the xps1530 glossy but at the same time some very specialized software isn't available for OSX. (ie you said "movies" and you can't get the CoreAVC codec for OSX, some photoshop filters, etc)
