I recently bought a mbp 13 and I really want a case that will prevent scratches on my new mbp. I tried the macstyle as a cheaper alt... but I don't like the sticker thing. I been looking everywhere for a case that is really thin and light (like the incipio feather) but I want the apple logo on the back to be visible. Also, I hope the case can be black too. I also heard that some of those cases that the see thru satin cases scratches the mbp which I don't want.

So in short, does such a case exists?
where would i be able to find (A black, think and light that reveals the apple logo that will not scratch the mbp) case?

    Thank you so much!!

I would not get any case that snaps onto the MBP simply because there is always (and I mean always) the possibility of dirt and dust to get between the case and MBP which will eventually lead to scratches on the MBP. I had a black snap on case for about one week before I returned it for an incase sleeve. Sleeves have the benefit of being able to protect the MBP from larger bumps while stopping scratches since their inside of made of extremely soft material. Better yet, they don't actually cover your MBP when you try to use it. Slip case sleeves do bulk up the MBP more than snap on cases but it isn't anything that would be a big deal.

I have been using the Incase sleeve for a while now (essentially started one week after the 2011 MBP models were released) and my MBP is free from any dents, scratches, and other physical flaws.

thank you for the reply. I tried repping... but I must share some rep before giving it to you again =)

I do have a sleeve for my mac already (zeroshock III) But because how use my computer, it is prone to get scratched when no in the sleeve. That is why I was looking for a snap on case.

Do all the snap on cases scratch the case?
    Is there another alternative?

    Thank you again!

I have tried several Skin cases and only the Speck seem to give me trouble?
I like the InCase Skins as they snap around in enough places to prevent movement when opening the lid better than the others.

I recently got one for my 11" Air that has a pattern of holes everywhere and it may let crap in to scratch but it looks so cool I couldn't resist!
I am just cheap that way.

Another alternative then, instead of a step on case, would be to apply a skin. That would still protect the MBP from getting scratched while it is not in the sleeve and you wouldn't have to worry about dirt or anything else getting between the skin and MBP. There are skins with patterns (though the ones I have come across cover up the Apple logo) and clear ones. Personally speaking, I would not take the chance and use a snap on case no matter how nice it looks. I have come across people that use them without any issues. I also personally know someone who put their MBP in a snap case (it was the first Intel MBP Apple introduced back in 2006) and there are some rather bad scratch patterns where dirt and dust came between the snap case and MBP. He said that his MBP essentially looked like that after the first year of using it with the snap case but, by the time he noticed, the damage was already done.

Every option involves a trade-off it seems.

I prefer to not take mine out of a case before or while using as it seems more vulnerable to damage when exposed to me. At least while covered in any way it is less likely to be scratched.

I use a Mac Truck case inside a soft briefcase when moving the computer and have the machine inside the In Case Skin or what you are calling Snap Case too.

The only time I have experienced abrasion at all was with the original Speck hard plastic Snap Case as they did not fit that well and would cause anything inside to abrade the machine.

The other Skin/Snap cases I have tried just did not do this and I have had no issues. These are the InCase and Incipio.
The Mac Truck is pretty much impervious to everything imaginable and has soft padding inside too.

I've never understood the reasoning behind snap cases (or behind vinyl car bras, which I find remarkably analogous). You don't want your MBP's aesthetics to be harmed by a scratch here or there, so you cover up those aesthetics with a plastic case that's far uglier to look at than even a well-worn aluminum surface? Aesthetically, aren't you better off with the MBP's own case, wearing and all?

Beauty would seem to be an individual preference, like everything else.

I can't understand Car Bras either though?

That's why you get the clear stick on car bras so you cannot see them, but they still protect from nasty stuff (mainly bugs)

You can get clear stick on protective covers for laptops too that are so thin you can barely tell they are there looking closely
