    Hello,

What is the best 24" monitor (no bleeding)?
I am debating on getting a MBP 15" or 17"
or Gateway FX desktop 6800-01e at Best Buy.

Any advise on purchase would help me.
I do some gaming, that is why I was looking at the gateway.

    Thanks
    Frank

I am a good one for value, and I would strongly recommend the 24" soyo available from OfficeMax. It frequently goes on sale for $250 or less, it is one of the brightest monitors I've ever seen. It also has a matte screen which is a must for me. It is not a TN panel, so viewing angles are excellent and the color pallet is also expanded. It does lack HDMI, but has VGA and DVI inputs. I use these at home, and they easily compete with the high end dells and samsungs we use at work which cost upwards of twice the price.

The Soyo is a TN panel. It is slightly tweaked to provide better viewing angles, but the quality of the display is still far from MVA/PVA/IPS panels.

Lame, the previous poster is right. THe two I have were purchased together, and do have a PVA panel type, I've taken the apart and verified it myself when I bought them and online sources can confirm the earlier models did have PVA. But thorough reading revealed soyo switched the panel type with the new model, and towards the end of life of the old one. Given this new information, I'd switch my recommendation.

Best 24" Monitor? Of course its hands down the 24" LED ACD, I'm still blown away by its vividness and instant backlighting!

Anyway for around $400.00, I would put my finger on a Dell 2407 or a 2408 (Probably from ebay).

Money no object, an Apple Cinema Display would be a great choice, however I think the Dell ultrasharps as mentioned above are better value for money all things considered.

+1 for dell, they sometimes have sale where you can get 22-23" monitor for 170 CAD. Where are you located?
Right now they have s2209W for $170 at dell.ca

It's really all based on preference, one monitor may look great for one person, but terrible for another. I suggest heading down to your local store and taking a look at some 24 inchers. For gaming, refresh rate is very important, so aim for 2ms. The higher contrast ratio the better as well. I have a 22" Samsung T220, and it's excellent... I know they have a 24" version as well.

It's not just preference, I looked at a 24" Gateway and it had lots of bleeding from the sides. I heard LCD's tend to do this, but wanted a monitor that had the least.
