My macbook pro c2d (non-led screen) has a current battery capacity of 2651 mAh and the original battery capacity of 5500 mAh. The health is already at 48% after only 81 loadcycles. Is there something wrong with my battery? I'm using coconutbattery to check the health. Thanks in advance!

Yes, the battery has a problem. A normal battery should have 80% battery health after 300 cycles, and you results are definitely not normal. If you are within one year, or have AppleCare, contact Apple to get a replacement.

That's okay for now, sheldon. You may suddenly jump back to 100% later on, these "battery health indicators" aren't 100% accurate. If you start to notice it drop even faster or more dramatically (like say to 85% within a few months) then you should be worried. But at 98% its okay for now.

Take the battery out if you're using external power source, this helps to preserve battery health!

i have a less then 2 week old MB and it stays plugged in probably 75% of the time - currently, it's been plugged in for 10+ hours and its only at 98% as well.... hmm?

As said before 98% is okay for now. I'm still at 100% after three months use, but I've only cycled it 17 times. If you start to notice it drop to 80-85% in the next few months, then be worried.

They just count one cycle when you unplug it and it drops below 96% and you charge it again. So 95%-100% is one cycle, 3%-100% is also one cycle. The lower the amount of cycles the better, so that's why its best to use your battery until 10% charge or so before charging it up again.

And I wouldn't recommend draining the battery all the way to 0%. Just recharge it when it goes near or under 10% charge.

iStat Pro (a great widget) counts your amount of cycles (as well as tons of other things about your computer).

Hrm, does the Applecare cover battery replacement?

Mines at 53% with 269 cycles. It's not even a year old.

AppleCare covers it if its defective. If its wear-and-tear then AppleCare doesn't cover it. Yours sounds defective to me. Call Apple, quick! :p

Mines been calibrated. I can only get about an hour of life now, where I used to get about 4. I just ran it down until the unit shut off. Didn't change anything :-/

I have a lot of problems with this unit, but I can't go without it, even for 3 days yet.

    Update!

Found out that there is a major bug in VMWare fusion. I noticed that Airport was constantly pegging my processor at 92-98% percent, all the time. And it had NO activity going over the network.

So, looking into it, it's a bug with VMWare. Theres not solid solution to it, but closing the process seems to work. I went ahead and removed the com.apple file thing that was recommended.

After deleting that file and stopping the Airport process, I'm up to about 2.5 hours of battery life with normal brightness and usage. Much better :-D

Well, this is interesting. My battery health is now back up to 83% with 271 cycles.
I didn't recalibrate it last night either.

How odd. It appears that the VMWare bug is a bit worse than a thought.

I have the same problem with my battery the health is down to 62% after 48 cycles.

I have tried to calibrate the battery but to no avail.

I am going to apple tomorrow, i will leave them the battery if that will help. We think it might be a bad cell in the batter.

So taking the battery out and putting it in the refrigerator does preserve battery life? I thought that all batteries just lose max capacity just as time goes by. meaning, if you buy a brand new battery for a macbook pro that was actually made 2 years ago, it would have less max capacity just from age?

The 2.0ghz c2d macbook I bought in may still had 100% health after a crapload of cycles until I sold it 2 weeks ago.

With my battery, my Macbook almost never leaves the adapter, so I've barely used any cycles of the battery. I bought my Macbook in December of last year and I got these stats:

    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5169
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 5128
    Cycle Count: 56

(That's 99% health after a year. and I haven't caliberated this month yet, so that'll probably help bring it up a bit)

Now that I've read everyone else's battery stats my worries of my battery slowly dying are completely gone. x)
