Backup Iphoto Library Inquiry

Hello all,

I am helping my aunt with an issue she is having. She has over five thousand photos on her old Mac tower (10.4) and is backing them up to an external hard drive. It seems that when she goes to the Pictures folder she can copy and paste them over, but it does not preserve any of her naming/etc. that she has done in Iphoto. Unfortunately, she has a lot of important information tagged and would like to preserve it. I am at a loss as I do not own a Mac nor do I have unlimited access to her computer. I have scoured Google for about an hour with no luck. Does anyone know of a way this can be done efficiently? The one option I have come across is Time Machine, but she would have to upgrade to Leopard to get this function. I am not sure if she will be able to at the moment, nor am I sure that her external drive will work correctly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You have to backup the entire iPhoto library folder.

I found it with this search:

The problem is that the most of the metadata (apart from the camera) aren't stored with the pictures.

It seems that the tags are confined to within only her program, which means that the name of the files only changed within the program and not with the file photo itself.

Have you tried using the program to export the pictures to the external hard drive?

 

need to go in your library and Select all pictures and Export.. telling it to use titles and all that type of stuff.. it has options on exports to what itll name the files and such.... thats about the only part I know.. I hate iPhoto and don't use it much.
