I was wondering where are some places that you wouldn't dare take your Macbook/Macbook Pro? Such as around your house , and or out side of your house, thanks. And why?

I would not take them to a night club or a place with a lot of gang members/hooligans.

I'd take it anywhere that has a power plug (bathrooms included :p). You never know how long you'll be in a bathroom anyway, so having it around to surf the net would be handy. :D

If you're afraid to take it out, just get a hardshell that is dark, and put piece of paper covering the apple logo inbetween the shell and the laptop. Then people wont see your apple logo, and it would just look like any other laptop from afar.

Friend did that with his, cause he was afraid people were gonna steal it. Though I think he just gave up, and doesnt care anymore.

For the questionable places, I just use my crappy (but padded) gym bag and dump my mac in there. Problem solved

covering up the apple logo so people won't steal it? that whole line of thinking is flawed. someone who is going to steal a laptop is an opportunist. they don't care what brand it is. the fact that its a laptop is enough.

putting the laptop in what looks like a cheap bag works pretty well. If you have a cheap, crappy bag what are the chances that someone will assume you have anything espensive in there compared to a nice expensive looking laptop bag?

Of course that's not an invitation to leave your bag lying around. Like you said, a thief is an opportunist so common sense like not leaving your bag lying around will go a long way

my 17" MBP is pratically stationary, i bought it so that it doesnt intrude the space in my room. and i can move it if i wish to. the (17") MBP doesnt travel too well if you want to keep it case looking fresh and warp-free. im afraid to loose its data as well.

which is why i bought a MB for travel.... which get stolen.... ironically it gets stolen inside my house... during new years eve no less. the thief has not yet been captured... :( i miss my macbook....

i wouldnt bring my macbook in a place where there is a crowded people for sure. or any place where it might look out of place, hence getting lots of attention. no dirty/dusty place also, might clogged the inside electronic.

yes, covering your laptop, engraving your laptop, scratching it so that it doesnt looked nice. will reduce its appeal. the thief most likely want shiny things also, wheter for his/her own use or for sale, it will drop the appeal and sale value.
