I was thinking of getting a Macbook 13".
But was a little afraid after reading the random shutdown issues.
And I was just wondering if they had the problem fixed or not.

The random shutdown issues that a handful of users are currently reporting just started popping up over the last month or so, and as far as I know it hasn't been fully determined what the problem is.

So no, the problems aren't fully understood or fixed yet, but it also seems to be not so widespread, so the actual chances of being affected by it are probably pretty slim.

If you're concerned about the small odds of being affected by it though, it probably is worth holding off until it is figured out (can keep an eye on the forums, sites like macnn.com or macrumors.com for news on this).

I had it happen to me 2 times, and one other time, but I dont think its related.

Anyways, each time it happens I narrow it down more and more to what it could be, and this is what I have found out.

I noticed it happened when I was running on battery, so after numerous attempts I plugged in the AC cord and it started working, and I went ahead and did repairs of permissions.

So far the battery seems to be a possibility.

The second time, I don't recall if I had it plugged in or not, but a thought occured to me, and it seems like its possible. If you have anything external connected to the notebook, make sure you eject them before shutting down. I have started doing this, and it seems to be running a bit better, so thats another possibility.

The last thing I think it might have to do with is the SMC firmware update, the random shutdown stuff started happening shortly after the SMC firmware update was released, and its possible it can go hand in hand with the logic board replacement, as those are probably not updated with the firmware update simply because its a 'new' logic board and shouldn't be affected.

So those are the three things I narrowed it down too.
