I've never really used a mac computer, but I'm thinking about buying one (specifically a macbook pro). I wanted to know are games normally compatible with macs because I have the preconception that they aren't. Some example games are: Call of Duty, Oblivion, Spore (when it comes out)

Be careful about the terms you use.
When you ask 'are most games compatible with Macs' the answer would be yes, because you can install Windows and Linux on macs, allowing you to play most of them.
If you are wondering whether games run natively in OS X, then the answer would be the list linked to above.

true- these days you can run boot camp and install windows and have the same experience as you would with any other windows machine.

i almost expected it to be a buggy layer based solution, but it truly is native.

in fact- you might have a better experience with boot camp, because all of the drivers are provided for you.

not having to deal with hax0rzed drivers from laptopvideo2go.com to run your 8600m gt in xp is a wonderful thing.

basically- open gl games make it to osx.

that means you get your doom 3 and your quake 4 and unreal tournaments, you also get your call of duties (generally)

but you dont get half life 2 or counter strike or anything like that. even so- i do have half life 2 and counter strike source installed on my brand new macbook pro. in windows. it runs with all details maxed, aniso filtering and anti aliasing, at about 100 fps.

short answer is no, but all windows programs can be played through dual booting, but dont forget the negatives to having to dual boot just to game.
