I've been a bit surprised by what apps do and do not look good on the MBPR's retina display. Let's compile a list:

    Looks good:

    • Safari
    • MS Outlook
    • Things
    • Steam
    • Evernote
    • Skype

    Looks awful:

    • MS Word
    • MS Excel
    • Pages
    • Unity

All in all, most apps look really good, even if they are not "retina aware". It's too bad that Word fares poorly, since text processing is the "killer app" for retina.

What resolution are you running the rMBP at when you are looking at Word Mac 2011? Did you adjust the Zoom inside Word Mac for the document you were creating?

That was at the "best for retina" setting. The document zoom level doesn't matter - same problem at 100% and 130%. This is a known problem with Word, just was a lot worse than I was expecting.
