I recently discovered a redish line of about 2.5 inches on the screen of my Macbook Pro 13(purchased Feb 2011). This redish line is only visible when veiwing an application with a black or dark grey background. I took it to a local Mac store and was told that the crystal display is broken a and may not be covered by Apple even though I have a few more days of warranty left.
Well I did not drop or squeeze my machine so how could this be?
I am not in the US.

if its a completely vertical line from top to bottom exactly straight of pixels... you can probably get them to cover it. If its an actual crack though, well that doesn't happen from normal use, so they wont...

I guess it depends on if there is physical damage or not. They should be able to assess this.

Unfortunately, it sounds like physical damage. It seems to me like it would come from an impact from the back of the LCD. You wouldn't necessarily need to drop it. You could drop something onto it or maybe if you had it in a backpack and it knocked into something or landed just right.

Does Apple offer an accidental damage policy for their computers like they do with the iPhone 4s?

So how much do you think it would cost to replace a screen?
Well it is hard to be seen, you have to look real real closely to see it against a dark background.
    Will it get worse?

no, the only way to get accidental is from a third party provider

not sure in your location but to have apple do it here is $685cdn and is NOT an easy do it yourself fix but can be done if your careful cheaper

possibly, i have had cases where the crack spreads taking out neighboring colums or rows

Replacing the screen isn't nearly as enormous of an undertaking as some may suggest. Plan on spending a few hours and spending $50 in tools though which could easily kill the advantage for you (suction puller for class, fine blade for separating adhesive, etc.). You're also going to be dealing with anxiety of doing it yourself. I've done it a few times with no issue, but I've also bought a new casing once due to a wire getting pinched that I did not see.
