I am surprised to see Apple is valued more than Google, but it makes sense I guess.

^those brands aren't valuable, though. I bet most people haven't heard of Sinopec so as a brand its not worth much.

Why does anyone care whose brand name is more "valuable"? How does that affect anyone on this forum? None of these brand names are for sale, and even if they were, nobody here would be buying.

    1. Apple is the most valuable company in the world. (share price times number of shares)
    2. Apple is the second most profitable company in the world. (money in minus money out)
    3. Apple is rated as the most valuable brand in the world.

No. Revenue doesn't mean anything. I can have a company with 500 billion dollars in revenue, but one trillion dollars in losses. According to this chart you would say that it is the "richest" company in the world. But it would actually be the poorest.

Now look at the second number, profits. That is how much money each company made last year. Ordering that list by profits paints a much different picture.

Was it valuable, or recognizable? Apple has really been pushing the last few years to have an increased global presence (just look at the last iPhone global launch). Right or wrong (or love or hate for some people), they've been able to set themselves apart in terms of instant recognition, whatever else you think of them, and that alone makes people look twice at anything they produce.

The Sinopec brand isn't very valuable. It is a state-run oil enterprise. As far as a brand to consumers, it is just gas stations. Really, who cares? If most of the gas stations where I live changed their name from Sinopec to whatever else, I don't think their business would be affected. Big company? Yes. Valuable brand? No.
