the future is looking good. too bad they didn't work with AMD on the GPU for the 2010's.

their GPUs are significantly more efficient than Nvidias GPus in both power and wattage.

Nvidia hasn't been very good for at least a year now in both the laptop and desktop GPU markets.

I wonder if it could be enough to motivate Intel to drop the lawsuit with Nvidia. What other leveraging would they be after? I believe that Apple would have no real interest in contemplating in going AMD.

Well Apple better be using AMD to make custom chips or something, cause AMD (not ATi) hasn't made a good product in like 5 or 6 years.

I doubt Apple will go AMD, just because they are known for being cheap chips and that probably wouldn't look good for Apple. Going ATI is good, nVidia is really sucking lately.

Unless AMD releases a completely new power efficient cpu, i would say that this going to be a bad move for apple. Amd's current processors heat up too much and they use too much battery as compared to intel chips.

AMD has 32nm Llano cpu's coming next year, so hopefully Apple does this and makes them more competitive against Intel.

But hasn't Intel been making 32nm chips since January?

How would this affect using boot camp? Would it just need to be ported to the AMD architecture, similar to the powerpc to intel switch?

just because AMD reps were seen at Apple doesn't mean they are going to use AMD processors, or are even looking into it... they might be looking at chipsets and GPUs... who knows its all speculation. Anything to put some pressure on Intel for being so stupid as to get in a fight with nvidia is a good thing... Intel needs nvidia badly to compete against AMD.

there might be minor changes behind the scenes, but it shouldn't really affect anything... AMD and Intels processors are both x86 and compatible with eachother.

Intel has been making production 32nm chips since late 2009.

I hope Apple adopts AMD's upcoming tech. AMD needs more processors in the laptop market. AMD/ATI is my favorite tech company, I think it's just because they're sort of the underdog of processors. But I know their time will come!

Thought this situation could be a possibility after those reports a few months back about Apple bashing Intel's IGP. With Nvidia out of the chipset business, Apple's best choice if they want their future 13" products to have better graphics options is AMD's Fusion APU.

I see this as a move to reduce more cost. AMD has been failing completely in the mobile market for their CPU for the past 5-6 years, their CPU is dirt cheap, but much slower and hotter than the Intel counterpart. Apple could have just used the Intel IGP + a weak dedicated GPU for their 13" if they worry about the IGP problem, rather than being lazy and not want to revamp their system, furthermore, seeking even cheaper and lower quality options like AMD CPU.

AMD lead the in power-efficient CPUs game while Intel was still pumping out the Pent 4. It took Intel about 2 years to catch up, but since then (Core Duo) their consumer tech has been awesome.

I'm sure the AMD Fusion (now 5-8 years in development) will finally integrated CPU + GPU effectively rather than the hack job Intel has done with theirs.

It could be Apple looking to use Global Foundaries to make their own ARM chips too.
