Go figure, Reports said Weds the Apple Back to School promo will be a $100 iTunes gift card. It's 8AM, Typically when you'd expect to see it up considering a lot of the retail sites are open or will be opening within 2 hours maximum.

Nothing on their website in the promos section. Nothing more listed in google and the news reports have (funnily enough) STOPPED.

I know a lot people that were waiting for it, myself included. $100 iTunes giftcard and an (IMO) crap deal or not it's still $90 I could recover sending it in to a few websites (Plasticjungle comes to mind, Where I've used $375 in Bestbuy giftcards to get $340. They sent me my money within a week)

    More waiting.

I'm saying how many people were outraged by the fact that M$ had an Xbox deal and the "Rumor" (Note: Just a rumor, which is why I'm amazed by the reaction) was apple delivering a $100 gift card.

It was rumored and talked about, Too many people said HURR I M GOING BACK TO WINDOS APPLES IS DUM 4 THIS MICROSOFTS KNOW HOW TO TREAT CUSTOMER!

    ...And it never happened.

That seems a little too much hate against Microsoft from a previous Alienware owner.
Anyway i also though that Apple was not stupid enough to have only a 100$ gift card while microsoft had a free Xbox. I mean even Apples iPod deal last year was so much better

Since when did I say I hate microsoft? I'm more pointing out the idiocy of some of our users that happen to believe rumors which are simply.. Well.. Rumors.

The RUMOR IS $100 iTunes giftcard. It is not confirmed. There is no date. Rumor.

Then again, not all rumors are based on speculation. Sometimes its done to see whether people will embrace a change or an initiative.

Manufacturers leak information all the time to gauge the reaction of their customers. If people don't react, then the manufacturer is left without valuable marketing data on which to base decisive action. If the decision is then made to retract the initiative, the manufacturer feigns a denial that the option was ever being considered.

Never think that you have never been played.

Either way I'm not waiting for it, I was hoping it would come today but I didn't take it as heavily as some people because it was likely speculation.

I'm not going to wait 2-3 weeks (estimated) to save $100.

It's Apple. They don't care because you will buy it anyway.

To be honest if half the rumors revolving around apple were true they would have an apple store in space.

Apple never set a specific date for the beginning of their back to school program (which traditionally gave away the iPod mini, iPod nano, and then migrated to the 8GB iPod touch model) so I am not sure why anyone would be upset that Apple didn't start something today when it was all just speculation.

It would be like me saying that there is heavy speculation pointing to information stating that the Moon is made of chocolate, someone spending billions of dollars to make a spaceship, fly to the Moon, drill there, unleash the Dark Lord Cthulhu, and realize that there is no chocolate to be had. You always have to take rumors with a heavy grain of salt especially when it comes to Apple (a company that many sites make rumors up for just so they can get Google hits).

Apple would have released a hard drive powered iPod touch in 2005, the iPad would have come in 2007 with an Intel processor and taken more of a convertible notebook form factor, and Steve Jobs would be a robot if Apple rumors were to be believed. So it is extremely hard to be mad at a rumor when it is just that, information that is not factual.

Edit: Just saw today that the back to school promotion has kicked in. Buy a Mac and receive $100 to spend in the Mac App Store. So that is like giving away iWork, OS X Lion, and a game of Angry Birds with the purchase of a Mac. It isn't bad but it also isn't that great. In terms of pulling in the a-typical college male student, Microsoft has a better promotion.
