They probably didn't know it was garbage when they put it into the machine, I think soon after it got into the wild they did. I true apple fashion blamed the users first before 180'ing because they were getting lots of bad press about it. I also agree that Jony Ive's design philosophy is still going strong in apple. It's going to take 2 or 3 more years to water out his thinner beats all other aspects of design.

Apple is patenting the possible ultra-thin successor to the infamous butterfly keyboard

Apple has abandoned its controversial butterfly keyboard, and while it took years of customer complaints and expensive repairs to do so, it appears that the company has not given up its drive to create an ultra-thin keyboard.
    Nope.

Because even if the Magic Keyboard, which Apple is currently installing in its MacBooks, is equally popular with customers and critics, the company apparently wants to save valuable space in the future in order to make its laptops a little thinner.

And with even thinner laptops you will get cooling that fits the bill.

That keyboard was trash. Three Macbook Pro 15s (6700k, 7700k, 8700k) all with a failing key(s) at some point Spacebar on 7700k, arrow keys on 6700k. Plus I hated typing on it and always had fear of failure of the keyboard in the back of my mind after a few failures. I use a 16" 9980hk model now for work dev and it is like night and day.

That will go nowhere. They (users) tried that a few years ago with the screens cracking in previous macbook pros. Apple told them to piss off. This was in context to the touchbar macbook pros. No year provided so all of them. The screens would chip and crack an the macbook logo on the bottom.

    Nothing new here.
