I need help regarding my MBP...My superdrive is having major issues where it's EXTREMELY loud (imagine like an airplane) and sometimes doesn't burn the disc at all. Also, I have a few clustered dim pixels on the left side of the screen that you can only see if you're looking for but it really bothers me.

I brought the computer into apple and they said they need to replace the superdrive and the screen. However they said I will be without my computer for 2-3 days. The problem is I CANNOT under any circumstance be without my computer for even one full work day (M-F). Now I HAVE to get these issues fixed so I asked apple if they could send me the superdrive and at least let me fix that myself but they said no. Is there any other solution for me or am I truly f'd? Thanks.

Maybe they can lend you one to use?

Is there an authorized local Apple repair shop near where you live, that maybe the parts could be sent to? If they are open on weekends, you could see if they could get you in and out in a few hours on a Saturday.

I asked about lending one and they said they dont do that. The authorized repair shop might work though.

Ok, this is going to sound cranky, but when an adult has something they cannot afford to do without, they arrange for a backup. This is especially true when the requirement is business related...

You cannot do without your notebook for one business day? Do you have a backup strategy in place? I suggest a $139 (or less) 500 gig WD MyBook external drive and use TimeMachine to make a backup. Now, if there are any files you cannot do without, you have them on the time machine backup and can get to them from your backup Mac.

Don't have a backup Mac? How can I take seriously your claim you cannot be without your machine for 1 business day when you don't already have a backup machine. Get a second machine, even if it's a used Mac Mini and you can afford to do without your main machine when necessary.

Sorry to be so cranky, but it's not fair to say it's Apple's problem if your hardware fails or is unavailable and your data isn't protected. There are maintenance contracts you can purchase for business usage that require your hardware to be swapped out in 1 business day or even 1 business hour. But you wouldn't be asking us about this in a public forum if you had one of those plans if you had one of those rather expensive maintenance contracts.

In light of these harsh realities, my suggestion is to live with the noisy drive long enough to get your data over to a usb hard drive either by manual copying or by time machine and take your machine to Apple and take your lumps by using whatever machine you can beg/borrow/steal time till yours comes back.

Now if you really want to see red, take your machine to Apple without backing it up first and run the risk they simply hand you another one without any data and say "here ya go, all fixed".

Apple ProCare is pretty awful for business quality cover. One way you could tackle this if you have enough money is to get another Mac (buy one second hand or borrow one from a mate), remove the HD in your current one, swap it with the one in your Mac, or put it in an external enclosure, and use it to boot the replacement Mac. Given the nature of OS X, any Mac (provided it is supported by the version of OS X you are running) will be able to boot from your HD.
Apple doesn't do courtesy laptops when yours is in repair.

if you have to have your laptop M-F, then deal with the dvd drive and dead pixels until you get a chance to give up your laptop and have them fixed.

a loud dvd drive and dead pixels aren't exactly going to impede your ability to work.
