I am looking to switch over to a macbook from a dell 700m. When is the best time to buy? Does Apple run a lot of sales? The guy at Compusa says that Apple hardly ever runs a sale? Is this True?

    thanks in advance!

yup, apple doesn't have sales but it does have promotions. For example, right now, if ur a student, u can buy a macbook and get a ipod nano worth 200 dollars for free. Amazon and sites like that offer similar rebates ranging from 50 bucks to 150. So if ur a college student, I would reccomend buying a macbook with education discount as you get the 100 dollars off as well as a free ipod nano (which you could sell on ebay for 150 if u want).

Yeah, if you're looking for sales/rebates you'll need to get one from a retailer. The best deals would normally be the mail-in-rebates when you buy something at amazon or macmall.com or the like.

Right now, as spookoman mentioned, the best deal that can be had right now is for a college student, combining the educational discount along with $199 off an iPod (via mail-in-rebate).

Yeaps, Apple rarely have sales the way Dell does. However, there is the Student Discount and right now buy a Mac and get a free iPod Nano, so in a way that's kind of a sale.

And keep in mind that Apple recently slashed the price of the MacBooks...all the MacBooks got pushed up in power for the same price.

To be fair, Apple hasn't really ever "slashed prices"...... the second part of what you said is more accurate; historically they have always kept the same basic price points for a product's life span, and continued to boost specs, etc. instead.
