The Apple HD Quicktime trailers quality is amazing. Does Apple have any plan in renting or purchasing HD Quicktime movie for rent or purchase?

I've heard that some "people", nerds who scan code all day, have found that itunes 7.5 has code within it that eludes to the fact that apple might be planning future movie rentals.

True, but they have found strings before that they thought would lead to something that never did. It may happen, it would certainly make a lot of sense for them to do it. It would likely get me to buy an Apple TV.

Yeah, Apple often puts things in place in advance, and if it doesn't work out they just don't mention it. And I agree, this is what would make the Apple TV a lot more worth the price; I would definitely go for movie rentals.

I dunno how movie rentals would work online :s

There'd have to be heavy drm on them, and if people figure out how to crack it (more likely), then I dunno if the studios would still back it.

Someone else said that another company that does movie rentals online, streams it, so that cuts down on ripping them.

Also i think a lot of people would be eating through their bandwidth. 45min of 720p content is around 1.2 gigs(depending on quality), and Ive seen full movies come in at 4.5gb size (at 720p)

But I guess that depends on the codec, not sure on quicktime, and also I guess its a good thing as with more people renting online, you would see consumers wanting faster internet, and higher bandwidth caps. If that is one of the things that come out of it I'd be happy with that ;p

MS has figured out a way to do HD rentals on XBOX Live. In fact, the only real reason I have considered getting an XBOX 360 is for the HD content availability that Apple has failed to bring.
