I received my refurbished 15" i7 HR AG MBP today and I was very happy and surprised to find out that they had accidentally given me an upgrade to 8GB of RAM.

Has anyone else heard of or experienced this before? I am guessing that this is a refurb only thing where they mis-classify some models when they are returned.

I don't know how Apple let this slip, but it's pretty sweet.

How about spread the love, you ship me one of the 4 GB ram chips and I'll send you my 2 GB :D. No chance in hell of me getting that lucky as I'm not buying a refurbished =[.

It's my first Mac and I have to say that Apple is starting off on the right foot.

It's nice to know you're getting a good first impression of apple, on another note, how is the performance of the mac itself?

Without the SSD, the general OS performance was good, and in app performance was great. With the SSD, the general OS performance is amazing, and the in app performance is even better. Everything opens instantaneously. It's a dream to use. It boots in less than 20 seconds (I think).

8GB is going to be a struggle to fill in OS X. It will definitely be useful in the future though.

I'm still waiting on my ODD caddy so I can reinstall my HDD. My OS X install is taking up roughly half of my SSD and I am in dire need of space.

How's the 8GB Ram doing in terms of compatibility with the OS? (Sorry, DUMB question)

I'm fairly certain that Snow Leopard is 64-bit and I'm pretty sure that the OS recognizes all of the RAM.

I forgot to say that Snow Leopard is 64-bit, not OS X on the whole.
