    Hello:
I bought the higher-end Macbook version on 1/16.
Now that Apple has released a new update, i'am very pissed, so what's different from the one i have and the newly released one?

It seems like one can never enjoy an apple w/out a update everyday. :(

Is there anyway i can exchange it for the new one?

    Thanks for any input.

There isn't an exceedingly large difference. The new processor *should* slightly keep it cooler, and theres 512mb of VRAM now, along with an optional LED backlight on the screen. It also has the same type of multi-touch trackpad as the Air. The 512mb will only make a marginal difference in performance, along with the new penryn CPUs. The base hard drive is also 200GB instead of 160GB.

I'm still tempted to sell this one and get the new revision though :p

I'm assuming you bought the computer I have - the more expensive 15.4" model. If so, there isn't a huge difference. The better processor (slightly faster speed, larger L2 cache) will help, but if we look backwards at the gains made between upgraded processors in the Santa Rosa line, it won't be earth-shattering. Should run a bit cooler and be a bit more power-efficient, but again, not so much that you should be seriously concerned. The 512mb of RAM will also be a slight improvement, but the 256mb card that we have is generally not limiting the graphics card, so doubling the VRAM isn't going to have the same impact that going from 128mb to 256mb had. And, of course, if you had the 15.4" screen, you've already got the LED backlit screen, so no difference there.

The only other real difference is the multitouch touchpad. You'll have to decide for yourself how much you want that, but personally, I think it's still months to years away from being a really useful feature on a laptop.

There's no reason to get excited about the macbook upgrade. A slightly better processor, a little more memory, and a little more storage is all it got. Everything but the processor you can upgrade to match yourself if you're really that upset about somebody having a better macbook than you.

If it was worthy of 1300 a month ago, shouldn't it still be just fine? It's not like your machine is any slower because of the update.

    Hahaha...whoops...

system_159 is right, there's very little difference for the Macbook. I wouldn't fret over the differences.

The update is just an incremental update. It offers very little real-world benefit over the previous package.

    Think about it like this:
    - If 160gb is not enough for you, 200gb probably won't be either.
    - Most people upgrade their RAM anyway.
    - .2ghz is not noticiable, especially when most machines never run %100 CPU.

In other words, the update will make no practical difference.

Joy is a state of mind. It refects true character. If you are trying to find enjoyment from a computer, then you will never be satisfied.

My advise. Use your MacBook and be pleased. The new revision will provide you with nothing more. It too will be obsolete shortly.

The MacBook update isn't too significant. Its a little faster and runs on less power/heat...not too big of a deal, only little updates :).
