The only discount you will get is a student discount. From the apple student store.

Or you can also get a Developer discount in the UK if you purchase a student developer membership.

If you are a student at uni though, I hear that you can get a great discount by logging onto your uni's specific Apple web store by using a computer/internet connection from your campus. Apparently its about 20 to 22 percent off and it includes a 3 year hardware warranty. May want to check that out as well if you are a currently enrolled student.

When I got mine they didn't even ask for any info to prove that I was a student.

She could theoretically get it for you, yes; however, some would argue that this would be a violation of the "nature of the discount". In my opinion, you are going to be a uni student anyway, and you will be getting the system for use at uni so ethically speaking, you are entitled to use the discount, although you will be getting your system prematurely. That being said, do you absolutely need the system right now? Why don't you wait till the summer? Snow Leopard (the next iteration of Mac OS X) is supposed to come out over the summer and this may bring about hardware refreshes as well. If you don't need the system right away, why not wait till June/July/August. Also, during these months Apple tends run a rebate promotion where they will give you an iPod with the purchase of a new Mac. This may be valid in the US only, but I am not entirely sure.

    Just some food for thought...

Booji I never thought of that and sure the MacBook can wait.. I just really want it. Being a guy who keeps up with Apple I honestly forgot about Apple refreshes around May. I didn't know much about Snow Leopard but yeah your right its worth it.

Does anybody know if they do special "Back to School" promotions or anything?

    Hi Tolkann,

The Back to School promotion is the free ipod (up to 199$ value I think). Basically you can get which ever iPod valued 199 or less or you can use the 199 towards upgrading to a higher valued iPod. Also, I know that in the US you get a 100$ rebate with the purchase of a Mac and any printer, so you could theoretically also get a free printer.

Tolkann, you'll be eligible for a 14/15% discount on a MacBook/MacBook Pro if you can prove you (or your cousin) is a student studying at university.
You'd be able to get your MacBook down to ~£970.

If you wait until July/August you'll also be eligible for a free iPod. I think it's upto £120 in value.

    Tolkann,

That would definetly be my suggestion. Hang on till August and use your educational discount. Also in the UK, if you buy your system through the educational store, you get 3 years of hardware warranty standard, instead of the 1 year that everyone else gets.

I wish that was the case here in Canada. Educational discount is the same as what I can get from a reseller and no applecare included.
