Is Apple care worth it for a new Macbook?

In all honestly, how is the build quality? robust? weak? strong?

I have no idea of what their (Apple products) qaulity is like, so am curious to know if its worth the extra $$$.

I am tech savy, so i can change the ram, hdd myself, if need.

It depends does Apple really care? Do you care if apple cares? How about the Care Bears? Do they not care? Health Care?

I would say if you have the cash get it. I have regretted not getting warranty extended on many products and with an investment such as a MB you will want it. Down the road for all we know all the new mac books .. say the first 10 batches were faulty.. .

I personally would buy "extra insurance" for any electronic that I move around frequently - in my case, my Macbook.

Even with the most care, things happen, and it's good to be covered - especially with an electronic that costs so much. So either way, I would.

In your case, if you have the cash, might as well. It's better to be covered than not. :p These Macbooks are still very new and so no one can say that they're very 'durable' or not, simply because they haven't had enough time to experience them. :)

Keep in mind that you have up until a year from the purchase date to buy the apple-care. Get the computer, get a feel for it and decide for yourself once you have it in your hands for a little bit.

The new Macs are supposedly of great build quality, nor will I say the previous generations were bad at all. As long as you're careful, they've been built well. But as with all things mass produced, there are chances things can go wrong, and a Logic Board replacement can cost up to $1000. So at that point, the $300 AppleCare seems to be worth it.

And as others have noted, you have a full year to think it over, around the year mark, you can re-evaluate and see if you think you need to add the warranty then!
