I have a bluetooth apple keyboard that came with my imac. Does it go into a power save mode in OS X or XP through bootcamp?

I'm wondering how long batteries normally last in this thing? It takes 3 AA batteries.

When I come back to the computer it never seems to have any delay. How do I know if it is going into a power save mode?

I've had my BT Keyboard for over 4 months and I'm still on the original set of batteries (Energizer Lithium).
