    If I purchase this at my university, I would get the education discount, which would make the Macbook Pro 13" Basic - 1,099$ x 1.0875 (CA TAX) = 1195.16$ Total out the door with a free iPod? or am i missing something.

    I think you need to wait until Apple has its "Back to school" sale for that offer. Unless your school offers that now. Also the free iPod and printer is a mail-in rebate (still free). So the total will probably be higher.
