In about two hours, I am (pending anymore payment issues) going to the Apple store to get a new laptop. They have the 15" MBP anti-glare in stock and obviously, the regular white Macbooks. I just can't decide if I want to spend the extra money (600$) for the Macbook Pro.

Does anyone with a regular Macbook run into any performance issues?

I am a light gamer and do not really game much during the school year, but I hate the idea of restricting myself computing wise (even for things other than games).

I have had experience with both the macbook and the macbook pro and I believe that if you have $600 to spare to go with the macbook pro.

In my oppinion the macbook pro is a much better laptop, not because it is more powerful, but because it feels much more solid due to the aluminium enclosure. The keyboard although not bad on the macbook, is much more crisp and responsive on the macbook pro. The screen on the macbook pro is also superb. The macbook screen I find is good, however it is quite straining on the eyes to look at the 13.3" for long periods of time. Looking at the 15" screen on the macbook pro however is a joy, I have never seen such a good screen on a laptop before. I personally own the matte screen and I much prefer it, I find the matte is less straining on the eyes.

Also although the macbook is slightly lighter and smaller, the weight difference between the two is very minimal. I carry my macbook pro around every day and find it no problem.

However, only go with the macbook pro if you can really spare that extra $600 because despite the advantages of the macbook pro, the macbook is still a brilliant machine.

How does the regular macbook compare when it comes to video and photo editing?

I've got a Macbook, and if it were going to be my only computer, and if size weren't the most important consideration for me, I would have gotten the MBP instead.

I don't know if this is the case with the MBP, but with the Macbook, I find it annoyingly easy to get the fan spun way up. The size difference isn't that big. I use an external monitor that makes the Macbook chug, even using Expose, and moderately demanding video playback. Using the Macbook by itself, the resolution is too low for my tastes for anything besides reading and media. Any "serious" work would quickly make my head hurt on that thing.

If you're worried about non-3d performance though, and don't plan on using any external monitor, I think you'll find the Macbook identical to the Macbook Pro. I think the new MBPs can take more ram than the Macbooks. Might be wrong on that point, but I think that's what I read somewhere. Get 2 gigs if you can. In my experience, one doesn't cut it for anything past the most casual use. Kinda gross. (Maybe this slips in before you're off to buy.)

@@dam: imo, the resolution is too low for actual work. Beyond that, it seems alright for photo editing. Video editing would depend on what specifically you were doing.

    Go with the macbook pro.

As of what everyone else has said here, the only new thing I could contribute is that... The Macbook Pros are the only notebooks that have a back-lit keyboards.

The new macbooks DO NOT have backlit keyboards.

( For the record, regular macbooks USED to have backlit keyboards, but Apple took it off)

I got a Pro. I figure if I'm going to use a computer for 3 years; I better be happy with it.
