I have been looking for a remote desktop from Windows to Mac OS X for quite some time. I have been disappointed with VNC in terms of performance and rendering (GPUCPU applications don't paint the screen correctly). I downloaded a trial version of IRAPP and ran it today at work and it works rather well. Performance is pretty good but it rescales the monitor that you're using which is a little annoying. I have a home monitor which matches the resolution of my MPB so I'm going to try it at home this evening.

The cool thing is that it only brings the application over to the Windows machine - it doesn't bring the screen background so you can mix and match Windows and Mac OS X applications.

Has anyone else tried this and are there any problems that you've encountered? I'm thinking of buying this program ($80) and just wanted to know if there are any issues with it. I have not been able to find a review of the product - there are lots of hits on review and the product but they are all boilerplate from the company that makes the software.

Another topic where I get to answer my own question.

I tried it at home on my 24 inch WUXGA monitor and it runs in full-screen mode, Windows to Mac OS X. I'm using it in Microsoft Remote Desktop mode over the proprietary mode and the performance and font appearance is better as it doesn't do screen scaling. I have a triple-monitor system at home and in the office. While working, I use a VM using VPN to get into the office on one monitor and put my organizational stuff on Growley Notes (Mac OS X only application). I wanted to be able to use one of the big monitors to capture the screen on Mac OS X and use the KB/Mouse - it's overall more comfortable on my eyes. I could buy a Mac Pro to do this but spending $3,000 would be a little overkill for what I'm doing.

Remote Desktop has been a weak spot for Mac OS X for quite some time. Now it appears that there is a decent solution.

BTW, I received a temporary key from the VNC folks for their Enterprise VNC product. I haven't had a chance to try it but I suspect that I won't. Enterprise VNC is also a purchased product but it may be a little cheaper. I don't know if Enterprise VNC performs better than regular VNC server but I will look around for a comparison - I'm too lazy to install it to try out.
