I'm shopping an external HD for my MBP and am noticing that a lot of Maxtor HD are not listing Mac under compatibility. Just PC.

Anyone know why this is? Does it have to do with the one touch backup sw, or will the drive not be read at all on a Mac?

It is probably their one-touch backup software. As a drive on it's own it would probably work. I personally like the MyBook's from Western Digital, they are a good price. I saw an ad for $199 for 500 gigs with FireWire!

Yeah I have the Premium Version of Western Digitals External Drive of 250GB for 159.99.

Lately Best Buy has been having a lot of sales on their external drives most having prices on Brand Names going cheaper than you can get from newegg.com

Yeah - that's where I saw the Maxtor drive that I was looking at. I don't need anything too huge - min 80 gigs, but probably 100-160 is MORE than enough. I just want the best bang for my buck. I'll probably end up with a WD MyBook, but I am a little leery of WD because I've had a couple of their drives crash and burn in my past.

And I was trying to avoid Seagate because my hubby and I weren't impressed with their customer service.

I might buy an internal and a box and build my own drive.
