Hello all, since looking over the new MBP Santa Rosa models with the nvidia 8600GT I am almost positive that I want to make the plunge into the world of Macs... I was just wondering if anyone has gotten the new MBP and is in the process of making a big beautiful Review that this site is so famous for *wink wink* I'd really like to see what people think of it in terms of:

    Build Quality
    Battery Performance
    System Performance
Boot Camp vs. native Windows (on a PC)
    Heat/Noise

    etc. etc.

I'm preparing to submit my review, hopefully the Admins here will give me a few things to beef up and include, i'm new to laptop reviews and Mac's so i'm not sure how well this one is drafted haha. However, I won't be bootcamping.

Ooooh cool, well post here the moment its uploaded I can't wait to read it, how do you like your MBP? Sounds like you are were(are) a PC person, so I am even more interested in your opinion as I would be switching, and long-time mac users tend to be a little preachy about their choices (sorry to any mac lifers) so its good to hear more critical thoughts on the system as a whole!

Setting up XP over Bootcamp on the new MBP is not as easy as you might think... I haven't tried Vista 32 yet. Right now I'm having a ton of problems with drivers for the video card, ethernet (tho wireless works), and the sound card.

I saw a post earlier today about the graphics drivers issue in XP I'll see if I can find it again for you (don't know if the issue was resolved in that thread or not) I will edit this or add another post if I find it

Yeah, over on the MacRumors forums people are finding alternate drivers to use; otherwise we'll need to wait for Apple to release a new beta of Boot Camp with support for the new hardware.

I noticed that many people here that are buying the MacBooks are immediately mentioning that they are going to use bootcamp and install Windows. Are you guys going to actually use the computer for what it was designed for, a Mac?

Well, yeah, I think you'll find most people who buy MB's and MBP's still mainly use OS X; but especially for people who are also Windows people, it is natural to also want to install Windows and be able to use your Windows apps, Windows games, etc. when you want to.

It's also of course been exciting for Mac people to now be able to get a Mac that also lets them run Windows apps in Parallels or Boot Camps, so the issue of software availability, etc. is lessened - gives you sort of the best of both worlds; OS X and the Mac apps you want to run, without giving up the ability to run Windows and Windows apps as well when you need to.

I only know a handful of people that buy MB's or MBP's and solely use them to run Windows; logically speaking this doesn't make much sense unless someone just loves the Apple hardware but doesn't like OS X.

Ive been a life long Windows user so the option of being able to use windows if i ever need it on the same computer as a mac was a big selling point, However i am not installing windows on the computer anytime soon...i need some time to get use to OS X...but, with 4gigs of ram, 2.4 ghz C2D processor and an nvidia 8600m GT dx10 card i may put windows on later just to game it up alittle...

Well, I've previously been primarily a Windows user all my life, although I've also had plenty of experience with Macs on the side (the school board has quite a few of them before and I've done plenty of video editing on them among other things like setup and maintainence to help the teachers) so perhaps I don't exactly count. In any case, when I bought my MBP, I very quickly got up to speed with OS X and use it 95% of the time. OS X is more than capable of most of my average tasks, surfing, typing, photo editing, burning, gaming, etc. and I only use Boot Camp for compatibility reasons with some software and CS:S and GTA:SA when I just feel like cruising.
