I am SUPER UPSET! I was going to buy a mbp 13 hearing they might have a higher resolution display I absolutely do not like anything lower than 1366 at least.

I didnt understand why the airs have higher resolution displays and the mbp13 did not get any higher resolution update. SMH! Now I might just get the macbook air instead -_-

The 11" macbook air has more pixels than the 13" macbook pro.

    Disaster.

Also, the macbook air ultraportables all have better graphics performance than the most expensive 13" macbook pro.

    double yoo tee eff.

Of course, with the m17x maybe you should get an air.

What's the idea behind this? They obviously got lofts of 13" 1440x900 panels laying around because of the MacBook Air 13" model.. So why on earth don't they even offer it as a upgrade option?

To prevent it from eating into MBA sales, I guess.

I'm looking at the bright side.
I have my MBP 13 from last year, and its death by obsolescence has been stayed.

I'll also be spending less money this year by only looking at the new iPad 2 and iPhone 5 for serious consideration.

Same here. Resale value for the 2010 MBP 13 just went back up. iPad 2 and iPhone 5 are my only concerns this year I guess.

If I have spare cash laying around I'll consider trading up to a 15" MBP.

I'm very surprised Apple didn't upgrade or at least offer the option for a higher resolution display on the MBP 13"!

In my mind the "Pro" series product should always have (even if optional), a configuration that's the "best" (portability maybe not withstanding).

This would have been another outstanding way to differentiate over the regular MB, though at least now there's a CPU difference (and additional port upgrades).

I really debated about the MBA 13 vs. the MBP 13, and the toughest part of the decision was over the display. Ultimately CPU/RAM/expansion/BLKB took precedence, but it was a brain burner :D

Since the display is the same, the CPU is a small bump, the GPU is somewhat debatable, and LP/TB isn't a consideration for me right now, it makes me feel better about our Dec '10 purchase :)

The new 15" though, hubba hubba, I see one those in my future!

1280 x 800 is definitely a bit long in the tooth. For a "professional" level laptop and $1200, the resolution is pathetic. More pixels in the next update please. Some people don't want to have to buy a larger, heavier laptop to get more pixels. If the only way I can get more pixels to actually get work done is to buy a larger screen laptop, how will I ever be able to be portable too? Shouldn't I just buy a cheaper, more powerful desktop?

After seeing the MBA's 1440x900 I was pretty much EXPECTING their 13" pro line to get that resolution. Boy my mistake! Pretty bummed out.

I am very satisfied that I bought my MBP 13 open box at Microcenter last August for $900. This upgrade is really poor and I am not jealous one bit. The processor is the only good thing about it. I have no use for Light Peak, and I highly doubt anyone who wants to buy a 13 inch portable would. Otherwise a worse graphics chip is unacceptable, and the extra hard drive space is nothing to talk about.

Then the battery life gets worse? lol.

What would have made me sell my MBP and upgrade to the current one.

    Sandy Bridge processors - check
    higher resolution screen - nope
    discrete graphics - nope
    SSD - nope

I really only needed 2 of the 4 to be on there for me to upgrade, apple gave me 1...

I made a check list myself and if Apple got 2 things right, I would've upgraded.

    Processor - GOOD
    Screen Res - UNCHANGED
    Graphics - UNCHANGED/WORSE
    SSD/HD - UNCHANGED
    Body Design - UNCHANGED

    Awe, come on.

Don't you want to connect your Mac to one of the new LightPeak printers, hard drives, cameras, scanners, or flash drives?

I mean, if there were any.

    That's two things right. :)

The battery life isn't worse. That's 7 REAL hours, and it's possible to get even more than that.

hmm. the fact there was no improvement in battery life is an upset. I know they changed th way they measured there battery life, but I pretty sure at 50% brightness my MBP can hit ~6.5hours... and it's the 'old' model.

oh well my resaile value just went up... because it's not like the new one is really any better... sure a little faster

I'm upset about the resolution.... 1280x800 in 13" was good 2-3 years ago, not in 2011

Why do you want higher resolution screens? i am kinda used to:
    15* — 1024
    17* — 1280

^^ that thinking is ofcourse sort of year 2005 but i still cant get why you are upset with 13* – 1280, huh.
I mean whats the real reason to ask for it? You wont fit more readable data on such a small screen anyway unless you have super-good eyesight (which i dont).

    so , going have a 13" with 1280 x 800
    compliments it :D

I do. Happily using my 1600x900 13.1" Sony Z12. In fact, I wouldn't mind if it had the 1920x1080 screen upgrade.

I guess I don't mind it, I came from a 16" Asus with a 1366x768 screen, so dropping to a smaller screen with a pretty close resolution looks great to me.

I would have upgraded if the screen resolution was updated along with the processor. Would have snagged the Core-i7 version. Oh well, now I'm pumping money into getting an SSD drive for my MBP13.

Thats the same thing I'm doing... not worth it just for the processor with the same screen and Intel HD 3000... going to save the money and get a nice SSD instead for my 2010 and keep it another year at least.
