I really like the fact that by upping the default RPM to 2550 (from 2000), my CPU temps dropped 5-7C. Sure, when I'm playing games etc they go faster anyway, but for default usage, 2550rpm makes way more sense, especially since there's no real noticeable noise difference. Actually, I PREFER the fan noise at 2550rpm than at 2000rpm. A win-win situation!

    Anyone with me on this?

I have mine set to 3300 rpm when I'm plugged in and 2000 when I'm not. The fans only really start making noise at around 3500rpm for me.

my computer controls my fan speed because it is a computer, and it does things for me, and it has done a good job of it so far.

have a nice time when your fan explodes from metal/plastic fatigue. I personally let my computer do its thing. 2k rpm default works just fine for me.

I tested the 3k and was no different to leave it , so i made it defualt and worked fine.

    i also use X-Base from http://www.balmuda.net/products/c/x-base/index.html

which really make different when i play crysis, i do have Zalman NC1000, and it didn't cool mine as the X-base did.

Before i used to feel the heat under my left hand , but when it's on the base, it don't at all.

haha, I can't really say you are hurting anything, quite honestly you may have found a way to keep idle temps down and more consistant that is perfectly harmless. unfortunately, the only way to really be sure is test it over time.

I used to manually manipulate fan speeds, but I stopped when I realized it really didn't need to be done.

When I bring up Crysis or Dawn of War or Portal or SupCom or whatever the fans slowly jet up to max, that is all I need to know. Otherwise, the computer is virtually silent unlelss I am running a fairly intensive program like AutoGK or BOINC.

Plus, I am running in Vista, so that means I am getting +6 degrees Celsius anyway!

It really helps that I have an external keyboard, the left palm rest used to get fairly warm.

I'm in the 37c - 50c range on my MBP, depending on usage, so I guess thats about "normal"? The fans are running at 2000rpm at all times.

Aww SMC Fan Control doesn't work on the new MBP that just came out... guess have to wait for next revision for support to be added.
